#ListenActChange is the theme of this year's Race Equality Week. 🔣 The theme, selected by the Race Equality Matters community, reflects ongoing findings and feedback about barriers to race in the workplace. Time for real numbers talk📏 : Only 25 % of the REM community believes their organisation focuses on action, change, and impact, and not just words. 63% believe that less than a quarter of allies are actually helping to tackle race inequality. 44% said their senior leaders and managers are committed to tackling race inequality, but only 21% said their senior leaders and managers are making an impact in tackling race inequality. Here at WHEN we'd like to share some more figures, in the form of our latest 100 Black Women Professors NOW programme Impact Report. At January's Annual Summit we proudly celebrated that 66 Black Women professors are currently in post in the UK. But this number is still less than 1% representation nationally. Eyes are on you academic institutions - let's do this work together. Get in touch to partner with us! You can read our full #100BWPN Impact Report here:

How to Celebrate Women’s History Month at Work It’s a time to celebrate women’s contributions to World history. This year’s theme is “Visionary Women: Champions of Peace & Nonviolence.” The theme honors “women who have led efforts to end war, violence, and injustice and pioneered the use of nonviolence to change society.” If you haven’t celebrated this month in the past, I encourage you to make this ritual part of your culture. It sends a clear message to potential and current team members that women are supported and will be treated well by the organization. Openly honoring women supports your efforts to attract and retain this group that makes up about 47% of the workforce (Department of Labor). In today’s tight labor market, it’s important to share your organization’s values – such as inclusion and equality – to differentiate from the competition. Article credit https://lnkd.in/d-DZm9Nh

International Women's Day is a global day of recognition and celebration of women's achievements in social, economic, cultural, and political spheres. From Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, and the United States, March 8 celebrates the women’s rights movements. The origins of International Women’s Day can be traced to New York in 1908, where garment workers went on strike demand better pay and working conditions.....But in 1896, Black American activists Mary Church Terrell, Harriet Tubman, Frances E W Harper, and Ida Bell Wells-Barnett founded the National Association of Women of Color, which became a vehicle for Black women to advocate for equal pay, childcare provision, suffrage, and educational scholarships. Being one generation away from slavery, they formed a collectivist and cross-class alliance to fight against racial and gender-based violence in the Jim Crow era, including convict leasing, lynching, and debt peonage. As we celebrate International Women's Day this year, it is important to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Black women, who have played an instrumental role in shaping history and promoting equality. Women like Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, and Fannie Lou Hamer were instrumental in the fight for civil rights, while writers like Maya Angelou and Toni Morrison and musicians like Nina Simone and Beyoncé made significant contributions to the arts and culture. Black women entrepreneurs like Janice Bryant Howroyd and Ursula Burns are breaking barriers in business and inspiring others to follow in their footsteps. Celebrate Black Women not only today but every day! #blackwomen #equality #historymakers #empowerment #trailblazers

IF YOU ARE NOT PART OF A PERMANENT AND LASTING SOLUTION TO THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING CRISIS AND HOMELESSNESS, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM! THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX IS BROKEN AND NOT WORKING FOR AMERICAN TAXPAYERS Veteran Housing Corp would ask every TAXPAYER to demand and get answers from their elected and appointed government officials the below questions as they relate to any affordable, workforce, or supportive housing project in your community! 1. How much local, state, and federal funding, tax credits, or other government benefits or incentives did the project receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project? Is the affordability period permanent and in perpetuity? 3. What guarantees exist have your local, state, and federal government officials obtained in writing that rents will not go up or that tenants will not be displaced or evicted after the "affordability period expires? Every local, state, and federal housing authority and affordable or workforce housing stakeholder should adopt the State of Vermont's "permanent affordability" policy as a model for all future government funded or subsidized housing projects or developments, no exceptions! https://lnkd.in/eFEUC8c8 Additionally, local, state and federal housing agencies should look to the Helsinki, FINLAND MODEL of ending homelessness by providing affordable housing for all 'It’s a miracle': Helsinki's radical solution to homelessness https://lnkd.in/er9HZSQU Even the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development AGREES THAT adopting FINLAND'S MODEL OF ERADICATING HOMELESSNESS may be of great value to resolving the affordable housing and homelessness crises in America https://lnkd.in/gkSZWYRU

On Saturday, March 23rd, 20 women, including myself, were named some of Miami's Most Prominent and Influential Black Women in Business and Industry for 2023 by Legacy Magazine. It was an honor to be recognized and to participate in the fashion show component, channeling my inner supermodels (Iman, Naomi, Tyra, Alek, Beverly and Pat) and showcasing the work of fabulous creatives. As a community development practitioner, I want to express my gratitude to Dexter A. Bridgeman, CEO and Founder of M.I.A. Media Group, for recognizing African American women and professionals on multiple platforms. I hope I can influence CRA officials reading this post to invest advertising dollars in this remarkable media platform that reaches millions monthly. The creatives, small business owners, and model coach all deserve our support. A special shout out to the designers, including @Komefashion, @Fitnessfinancialgains, @TanyaMarieTheDesigner, and The Limelight Collection from biomedical engineer Ebony Daniels Sanon. And a particular thank you to runway model coach Kareema Kaye Cox of The Kaye Cox Way who got the very best out of all of us in just three short weeks. Legacy MIAMI Prom Women Issue 2023
