#ACTEGA we are continuing our way to more #Sustainability. The installed photovoltaic system on the roof of our new 7,600 m² ACTEGA building in Bremen is another example and was recently put into operation. It is another significant step in reducing our environmental footprint, as it is expected to produce more than 850,000 kWh of clean electricity every year. The energy generated is used directly in the production process to ensure that our products are created in an environmentally conscious manner. Another great example of our "Let’s act" campaign under the motto "Let us make the world a little bluer". Our journey towards climate neutrality by 2025 is on track and we are excited to prove that industry leadership and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. As a young candidate for this #EUelections in #Luxembourg, I understand that climate change is not just an environmental issue, but a critical challenge that affects every aspect of our future. This urgency is echoed in the European Green Deal, an ambitious blueprint adopted by the EU to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. Significant progress has already been made under this framework, with substantial investments in renewable energy and rigorous emission reduction targets already set in motion. Now, it’s time to focus on the future and make sure that Europe is a global leader in renewable energy by 2050, achieving significant emission reductions by 2030. This is critical to ensure a sustainable, equitable transition to a low-carbon economy, offering young Europeans a healthier, more prosperous future. As a Member of the European Parliament, I will: - Commit to achieving the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement and the European Green Deal, with a focus on reducing EU greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 and reaching climate neutrality by 2050. - Prioritize the expansion of renewable energy and support initiatives that enhance climate conditions and biodiversity, including planting at least one billion trees by 2030. - Advocate for equitable climate transition through financial and technical support for regions impacted by shifts to a low-carbon economy. - Promote sustainable management and strong environmental protection as foundational to the circular economy, aiming to phase out single-use plastics and ensure all packaging is reusable or recyclable by 2030. - Support the development and implementation of a European framework for carbon capture and sequestration, and endorse initiatives like the "4 per cent" project for soil carbon storage. - Push for an EU-wide ban on planned obsolescence and the adoption of eco-design principles, ensuring products are built to be repaired and recycled. #LËSCHT8

There has never been a greater need to create a more sustainable world. To prevent irreversible consequences of climate change, global warming must be limited to 1.5 °C. We take responsibility for our environment in order to safeguard the foundations of life for future generations. Reducing greenhouse gases is therefore our key goal. As a pioneer in the industry and one of the few players in our sector, Klöckner & Co has signed up to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) “Business Ambition for 1.5°” campaign, the world’s most ambitious and significant framework for emissions reduction. Therefore, let’s have a look at our reduction targets in Scope 1 – Direct Emissions:   ➡️ Our near-term reduction target for Scope 1 is to halve directly controllable emissions by 2030 ➡️ We will in the long-term reduce all Scope 1 emissions that can be directly influenced to net zero as early as 2040   But which emissions actually count as Scope 1? In fact, it includes all direct emissions that occur at Klöckner sites. In other words, all emissions generated by our own facilities and all emissions generated by our own fleet. Next week, we will look together at which emissions are included in Scope 2 and what targets we have set ourselves in that area. Quantifying industry change with YETI 2.0… Our Sustainable Design Specialist, Hanna Dąbrowska, recently met with Kim Hollamby to discuss YETI’s developments ahead of METSTRADE 2023. These include significant improvements to proactively address upcoming regulations and the consideration of emerging technologies to tackle the demands of propulsion, HVAC systems, and corresponding fuel consumption. “Version 2.0 will include the latest generations of propulsion and energy generation with methanol and hydrogen.
