🇪🇺 The results of the EU elections are horrible (for all of us and in particular for investors and founders) given the strong gains made by far-right parties, especially in France and Germany: In a world that is increasingly leading to a cold war between 🇺🇸 and 🇨🇳, Europe must close ranks and stick together as quickly as possible. The parties that have started to gain the upper hand want to divide and weaken Europe. What makes Europe strong is democracy, the rule of law, diversity, migration and borderlessness. The far-right parties aim to do exactly the opposite. As founders and investors, we should be aware that our successes are based on precisely these five pillars: democracy, the rule of law, diversity, migration and borderlessness. And we should realise one more thing: In a world of cold war between China and the US, we must consider the geostrategic importance of technologies for Europe - also and especially to mitigate financial risk. It is not anymore about "only" managing the Green Transformation but we need to get it done as independently and autonomously as possible as Europe, while strengthening our resilience to defend our democracy, the rule of law, diversity, migration and borderlessness. The stakes are high. Perhaps even everything we have managed to build since the Second World War is at stake. I am worried. What will help is a new level of Corporate Political Responsibility (CPR). As entrepreneurs and investors, we can't stay out of politics because "we're just doing business". With every business and investment decision, we are doing politics, whether we like it or not! Again: It is time for a new level of Corporate Political Responsibility! A few entrepreneurs, investors and I have already taken the first steps; we will report back soon. I am seriously concerned. 🇪🇺

The present dispensation in 🇫🇷 🇩🇪 are straying away their constituents probably because they are in some level of delusion not realising that the economic distress stoked by inflation across food, homes and transportation prices has led to a socially more rigid, protective & conservative class. Plus I see very little effort from politicians or the media in drawing up a more astute narrative to fight the far right forces. You can’t just label and malign the constituents. There’s absolutely no willingness to probe into the root cause of why opportunistic far-right are growing and resonating with more and more voters. There’s so much focus on ‘villainising’ the voters who make such a choice and very little on swaying and winning back the voter with some serious reforms. Govts can extend 1 Billion USD to keep a battery plant or semi-con in Europe but can’t extend tax breaks to 3rd and 4th tier salary slab individuals. You need a trade off between both or it’s only going to get more painful.

I love the concept of Corporate Political Responsibility—it’s something I hadn’t really considered before. The potential for significant impact is enormous, especially when engaged responsibly, with a strong emphasis on transparency. With the EU elections, I’m holding out hope that things will turn out better than they currently seem, although it’s admittedly… a bit frightening.

Unfortunately western democracy can be easily "fooled" into populistic rules that would further make democracy weaker. It's something that happened in Poland, starting over 8 years ago and just ended. Western Europe will have to feel it on their own skin, unfortunately. Let's keep pushing the good work and hope world will not get crazier than that.

This also has huge implications for the Green Deal signalled by the losses in the Green Party. It's an out of body experience to see most people concerned about selfish agendas like immigration at a moment of time that needs most selfless cooperation.

…and progressive people who master more than one side of this context - both the macro politics and the future of European entrepreneurship and venture as effected by it - should take part or lead the charge in showing the way of least casualties or, ideally, win-wins. Concern should lead to action, and thank you for doing what you can, dear Danijel

At the interface between technology, science and business. We caused it. Let's fix it.

Thanks Danijel! I also find it very difficult to process the outcome of the elections. It doesn't give me much optimism for the other crucial elections that are still to come this year. It is becoming increasingly clear that the biggest risks we face in the fight against climate change are #racism, #nationalism and #populism. More optimism again from tomorrow...
