The growing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) is a great thing for helping achieve net-zero emissions, however, ensuring our electric grid is ready for the increased demand this will create needs to be a priority. And a key piece to this is data. Fortunately, a new collaboration called EVs2Scale2030 brings together EPRI, utilities, major EV truck manufacturers, government agencies and regulators to collect data on anticipated future-EV charging deployments across the country. As long as the #hpc is required by the new electrical vehicles, the high-power charging requires a higher current, which has higher requirements on the ev charging cables and connectors. My colleagues have released its 2023 Global E-Mobility Readiness Index (GEMRIX), which has measured progress toward preparedness for electric vehicle (EV) adoption in 35 countries across all continents. Incredibly proud to have been involved in this project. A lot of blood, sweat and a few years went into REVS but the project helped us understand what needed to change to make vehicle-to-grid (V2G) a reality. From next year, we'll see CCS2 chargers entering the market and while there is still work to do to unlock all of the potential of V2G, we're at the beginning of a technology shift that will change the energy network for the better. V2G will provide resilience to the grid, encouraging soaking of solar in the day, and discharging over night, as well as responding to grid signals, that will reduce the cost of energy for everyone. V2G, along with greater clarity on what happens to EV batteries at the end of vehicle life, will help boost EV uptake as it becomes clear that EVs have more value than simply being a mode of transport. California has led in U.S. electric vehicles (EVs) and charging locations since 2016, representing 37% of registered light-duty EVs and 27% of charging locations by 2022. U.S. EVs grew from 511,600 to 3.1 million, and charging locations tripled to 55,015. California's share of national EV registrations dropped to 37% in 2022, but its charging locations share increased slightly, aided by projects like CALeVIP. The state had over four times more charging locations than the second-ranked New York.
