According to a feasibility report by Foraminifera Market Research Limited, the granite chipping demand in southwestern Nigeria was about 24.2 million tons in 2008, while the total production was about 18 million tons, leaving a supply gap of 6.2 million tons. This translates to an annual market size of over N48 billion. The supply gap has been identified to continue to expand as construction activities in the region continue to grow at a faster rate than the increase in production of granites. Unlocking the Mineral Wealth of Balochistan and KPK: A Call for Governmental Support. We urgently call upon the government to provide the necessary support to ensure fair pricing and proper valuation of these resources. This support could include regulatory frameworks, infrastructure development, and international trade negotiations. By doing so, we can ensure that the wealth generated from these minerals benefits the local populations, provides employment opportunities, and contributes to the sustainable development of Balochistan and KPK. National Cement Holdings Ltd has completed the acquisition of CIMERWA Plc at $85 million (approx. Rwf107 billion), promising to soon make Rwanda a cement import-free country. The completion of acquisition 99.94 percent stake in CIMERWA was signed on, January 25, in the presence of senior officials of National Cement, PPC International Holdings Proprietary Ltd and minority shareholders including Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB), Agaciro Development Fund, Rwanda Investment Group and Sonarwa Holdings Ltd. The decision was first announced in November 2022, with officials saying the move represents a milestone for the industry in Rwanda, as its first and sole integrated cement producer becomes majority- owned by a company with a solid foothold in the East African region and strong growth ambitions in tune with the region’s infrastructure development imperative. Maputo port is gearing up its minerals capacity with the allocation of a new three-hectare slab. This strategic addition is set to bolster the port's annual handling capacity, which is poised to increase to an impressive 12.4 million tonnes upon the activation of the new facility. Neusa Monjane Saranga, the commercial director for the Maputo Port Development Company, highlighted the surge in demand for minerals, reflecting an additional four million tonnes of throughput. The new slab, boasting an annual handling capacity of 1.2 million tonnes, has already been fully occupied by our customers. To optimize efficiency and maximize handling volumes, the port is actively implementing strategies. The dedicated slab comes equipped with a specialized weighbridge, complemented by additional equipment and staffing investments.
