Visionary, transformational healthcare leader and educator, with successes in engaging diverse populations and driving positive change in higher education and healthcare systems.
An example of the possibilities when EMS is appropriately funded, revered as part of the public safety model, and deemed as an essential service. EMS care goes beyond 9-1-1 medical care and cannot sustain solely on the funding models of CMS/medical insurance. Preparedness for the unusual has a cost and it shouldn’t be loss of life. #emsmatters #fundems #essentialworkers
Thank you for your support of our #ATCEMS #TacticalMedics, Mayor Watson. Our entire department is still in a state of disbelief that this incident occurred. Please continue to keep our entire #PublicSafety family in the forefront of your thoughts as you begin this work week.

This month, our Meet the Team spotlight shines on client support, product, and technical whiz, Sam Winata. Here are a few things you might not know about him... 1️⃣ Sam was born and raised in Houston. As he puts it, “Despite myself, I haven’t managed to leave. It’s a comfortable place to be—if you’ve got an A/C!” 2️⃣ As a kid, he thought space was cool, and wanted to be an astronaut—kudos to the NASA Johnson Space Center! As an adult, he still thinks space is cool and would gladly accept a job offer to be an astronaut. 3️⃣ In school, Sam’s greatest academic interest was psychology. He chose the hard science version and earned his undergraduate degree in neurobiology from the University of Texas at Austin. After doing some real science work—i.e., research—and realizing that wasn’t the life for him, he earned a second degree in petroleum engineering. 4️⃣ His pathway into the energy trading software industry was a conventional interview, leading to a consultant position at SunGard Energy. The rest, as they say, is history. 5️⃣ Sam was attracted to working at Trellis by the energy of the team and the “startup” feel of the company. It has proven to be a stimulating change from working at a Fortune 500 organization. He says he wouldn’t enjoy his job if it weren’t for the fine folks with whom he works. He also enjoys the challenges that come with his position, which might involve hammering out product requirements one moment, giving a sales demo the next, supporting a client implementation after that, and recording a YouTube video the next day. 6️⃣ Sam pursues several hobbies, of which the weightiest is travel. Prior to the COVID pandemic, he would make 30+ trips each year. He’s dropped the pace of late, realizing that he’s now in his 30s and is not, in fact, an infinite ball of stamina. 7️⃣ When asked what makes him good at what he does, Sam says he doesn’t feel completely satisfied with anything he’s done and sees much room for improvement. So, perhaps that relentless drive to be better is the answer. 8️⃣ The best piece of advice Sam ever received came from an old boss: “Always seek to understand the intentions behind people’s words and actions.” When it comes to giving advice in return, he says anyone entering the energy industry must recognize that everything – everything! – with which they interact is part of a system made by people, for people (hat tip, Abe Lincoln), so they should consider how they can support—and perhaps improve—a part of that tangible and intangible infrastructure. 9️⃣ How about a prediction for the future? Sam doesn’t expect anyone to invent a perpetual motion machine or unlock unlimited free energy, so the energy industry will continue to be of the utmost importance and interest to the global community. Stay tuned for next month's MTT post showcasing another member of the Trellis team... :
