For decades, the good design principles have been expertly deployed to help sell bad things. Meanwhile, the environmental sector has been synonymous with bad design. To make sustainable behavioural change desirable, we need good design every time. In Hubbub’s ‘Crop It Like It’s Hot’ event, we heard from industry experts about how great design can encourage sustainable behaviour change. We’ve pulled together the 5 key action points we learnt from: → Alex Robinson: CEO, Hubbub → Carol Feeley: Executive Creative Director, innocent drinks → Tom Tapper: Co-Founder & CEO, Nice and Serious → Eric Saldanha: Creative Partner – Design, Hubbub

Unity in a Sustainable Future As we look back on the vibrant tapestry of ideas, innovations, and insights that was R+T, it's clear that while we hail from different corners of the globe, our aspirations converge on a singular, vital goal: sustainability. R+T was not just an expo; it was a global summit of like-minded pioneers, a melting pot of diverse cultures and approaches all aligned towards making sustainability not just a trend, but a central pillar in our industry. The event underscored the importance of these international gatherings, offering us a precious macro perspective on the collective journey we are on. To witness the industry's global players—old and new—come together under one roof was nothing short of inspiring. It reaffirmed our belief that when it comes to safeguarding our planet, there are no competitors, only collaborators. This shared vision propels us forward, uniting us in our efforts to innovate, inspire, and implement solutions that will shape a greener, more resilient future. Such events are crucial; they re-energize us, they broaden our horizons, and most importantly, they remind us that in our quest for sustainability, we are not alone. The path we tread is paved with the collective efforts of thousands, each contributing their unique perspective towards a common goal. As we move forward, let's carry the spirit of R+T with us. Let's continue to learn from each other, to challenge and push boundaries, and to celebrate the diversity that unites us in our common quest. Together, we are driving towards a future where sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. #RTExpo #Sustainability #GlobalUnity #GreenInnovation #Architecture

We are pleased to present the most promising solutions of the #CircularCityChallenge 2023, starting with the “#BuildEnvironment”. This area is all about leveraging local resources, accessing secondary raw materials, and engaging circular building experts, while optimizing construction waste management and monitoring materials based on economic and emission values throughout the building life cycle, and finding innovative solutions for existing materials during redesign and renovation. The four solutions selected by our jury are: ⭕ Concular The digital ecosystem for circular construction prioritizes the #reuse of high-quality building materials, aiming to significantly #reduce waste and CO2 emissions. https://concular.de/ ⭕ BuildSystems Evaluate recycling and reusing scenarios, along with incorporating secondary raw materials using smart sustainability roadmaps. Operate the "Circular Component Creator," a web-based open-source tool for selecting, creating, analyzing, and comparing components and building systems early in the building planning phase. https://buildsystems.de/ ⭕ #Reunit - ernten statt wegwerfen Transforming construction into a resource- and climate-friendly practice, Re:unit delivers reusable building products through a meticulous harvesting process and a materials licensing system. https://re-unit.com/ ⭕ Fraunhofer IPK The Automated Feedback of Building Models from Optical Scan Data (ARGOS) automatically generates building models, documenting construction status in an automated and processable manner. https://lnkd.in/ds-WS6JK 👉You can find out more about these projects here: https://lnkd.in/dd_v6rDH Thanks to all network partners and our funding partners Stuttgarter Klima-Innovationsfonds, Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie GmbH and Projektmensch. materialkreislauf. I'm so thrilled to be a contributor for the latest report from frog: ‘Futurescape: Trajectories for Tomorrow.’ Drawing on a hive mind of voices from across our organization, 'Futurescape' is a collective vision of the five key shifts that are set to impact the way we live and work. I wrote about how next-generation technology can be the key to preserving our cultural heritage and preserving it for centuries to come (pg. 8-9 of the report). I am particularly intrigued to see how text-based systems, GenAI and immersive tech may transform the ability to communicate with human-like recreations of historical communities in more immersive ways. Looking forward, we will increasingly see AI-as- archivist, supporting the digital preservation of indigenous knowledge and cultural heritage that were previously in danger of being lost to history. There are currently 7,000 languages in existence. By 2100, the United Nations estimates that at least half of these languages—and perhaps up to 95% will be extinct or seriously endangered. Safeguarding these languages, many of them indigenous and many mostly spoken as opposed to written, will take dedicated efforts.
Our ‘Futurescape: Trajectories for Tomorrow’ is out! #CircularCityChallenge - The search for innovative solutions for urban transformation to a #CircularEconomy. Cities play a crucial role in shaping the future of our world. As we consider how we will live in the future, cities carry a significant responsibility. By 2050, two out of three people will live in urban areas - currently, cities are already responsible for 70% of greenhouse gas emissions and 50% of the world's waste. The transition to a Circular Economy is key to helping cities achieve their climate goals and ensure a sustainable future. Circular Berlin, Circular Munich, MaterialKreislauf, Circonnact, Circular Black Forest, Creative Climate Cities and Fab City Hamburg have joined forces to launch the Circular City Challenge 2023. This initiative, supported by the Stuttgart Innovation Fund, aims to drive the transformation towards a sustainable urban system. The cities of Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart, Vienna, Detmold, and the municipalities of Zeuthen and Ortenau will collaborate in the search for innovative solutions in the field of the circular economy.
