I'm watching SharkTank US these days (I know a little late to the party), and noticed something interesting! The show includes short case studies of startups that had secured funds from sharks in the previous seasons. What a great way to build credibility for the show! By showcasing the value sharks are bringing, they get more people to trust them and apply to be there. These success stories include a brief story, straight from the horse's mouth with the challenge they were facing. Then it dives into numbers in terms of the revenue they are making and other outcomes. It also describes how and what the shark helped them with. And all that in just a min or two. Case studies are important for any industry or offering to demonstrate real-world results. When you present a relatable problem and show how your product or service resolved it, it becomes easier for prospects to connect with, who are dealing with similar challenges. It builds credibility and it supports sales and conversion.

If there is one piece of swag I always have to snag, it’s lanyards. Whether for a startup pitch competition, press event, company conference or just a nerdy convention - I love collecting lanyards! Why bring this up? I was decluttering and found a massive collection of lanyards throughout my career! A majority of these come from my time at VentureFizz! Sharing just a few… there’s three from Techstars (specially the Techstars Boston Accelerator), one from Drift’s HYPERGROWTH conference, another one from Cybereason DEEP conference in 2018, a MIT Enterprise Forum Cambridge lanyard (which is one of many I’ve collected from various events), media passes for MassChallenge and Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit, and lastly a VIP badge for the 2018 Timmy Awards by Tech in Motion (one that I hosted #humblebrag). Of course, I had to throw in my personal favorite, the Final Fantasy XV one from PAX East 2017. Sharing all these made me curious to know if there are any lanyard fanatics in my network. Comfort zone… Next week we will be traveling to San Diego to meet up with the fantastic Nerdio team during our annual company meeting / kick off, something I am really looking forward to. The week will be filled with meetings, presentations, team-building exercises, excursions, and more.   On the final day there will also be a Nerdio Shark Tank event. For this Nerdio employees can sign up to present / pitch an idea that will potentially benefit the company, our products, etc. It can literally be about any topic you like.   When the invite came in I thought, let’s give it a go. I signed up and wrote a brief excerpt on what I want to present, as requested.   This might turn into nothing, which I don’t mind, at all. I mean, there are so many smart people at Nerdio (I’ve seen the list 🤯), the chances of my idea being “picked” are slim.   However, for me personally, it’s all about stepping outside of my comfort zone, just do it, and experience the excitement, because, to be honest, it’s a scary thing to do, at least that’s how I feel.   I can’t wait to find out what everyone will be pitching, I’m confident that there will be some great thoughts and ideas being shared (and not just during the Shark Tank event). And even if my presentation doesn’t go well, nobody likes my idea, and so on, at least I was up there sharing my thoughts and gave it a try.   No matter the outcome, I am not going to fail, I’ll learn – it’s what got me here in the first place.   I am looking forward to 2024 (in general) and seeing everyone in person next week!   Happy new year!
