#euro2024 #germanyvsscotland #teamtactics #lessonsfromtheplayground Germany-Europe’s most successful footballing nation-was having a bit of a nightmare, when it came to big international tournaments lately. The World Cups of 2018 and 2022. The European Cup 2020. All represented colossal failures. Germany had lost their first game in all these tournaments, not made it out of the group stage in the two World Cups, and generally seemed a pale shadow of their dominant previous selves. But, last night, Die Mannschaft began Euro 2024 as well has any team has begun any tournament this century! With the perception of the men in black and white, in danger of taking on some morose blues, Germany absolutely blew Scotland away. And, hearteningly for German football fans, that turnaround was effected by two of the youngest members of the squad, the two Wunderkids of German football-Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz. Put in the same team by their manager Julian Nagelsmann, when conventional logic suggested one of them would have to be sacrificed, Nagelsmann showed the system of any team, has to be flexible enough to accommodate and make the best use of its prime assets. Not the other way around. Five goals of great quality. Five different goal scorers. The wily Kroos, back in German colours, conducting things from deep, like Stravinsky on stage. Everything seemed perfect, much as a purring BMW engine appears. The goal which they conceded would have rankled though. Especially considering Scotland were down to ten men by then. And it was soft in the softest sense of the word. A clean sheet would have been the ideal start. However, this is surely something they can build on. This was a result German football was craving for a long time. It has fired the enthusiasm of the German public, and home support can be a big factor at such tournaments. For the rest of the fancied teams, the immediate future is looking ominous. Because the host nation has activated its ‘Neuer’ side.

Quarter-passed four. Eight become four as the @euro2024 knockout stages resume. There's the highly anticipated berian face-off between Spain and hosts Germany at #StuttgartArena. Plus a heavyweight challenge of France taking on Portugal in #Volksparkstadion of HSV. Will this be last appearance of #Ronaldo in a major tournament. The following day, dark horses Switzerland are pitted againt under-performing England in Dusseldorf Arena, with the quarter final stage coming to a close as the Netherlands face Turkiye at Team Olympiastadion Berlin. It's all to play for as a new chapter in UEFA Euros history is written. But what we already know - it will be exciting. Whether if involves extra-time or even penalties, we need a quartet of winners to provide that semi-final line-up.

Day 16 of regular contents on social media 😁 Did you know that the Euro 2020 tournament, played in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was the first European Championship to be held across multiple countries? ⚽🌍 This unique format saw 11 cities in 11 different nations host matches, stretching from Baku in Azerbaijan to Glasgow in Scotland. The idea behind this pan-European tournament was to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first European Championship, held in 1960. While the concept received mixed reactions, it certainly made for an interesting logistical challenge and a truly continent-wide celebration of football. Another fascinating fact about this tournament is that it featured the highest scoring final in the history of the European Championship. Italy's victory over England in a nail-biting penalty shootout came after a 1-1 draw, bringing the total goals in the final to 2 - a record when including the decisive penalties. The Euro Cup continues to be one of the most-watched sporting events globally, showcasing not just athletic prowess but also the rich tapestry of European cultures and the unifying power of football. From underdog stories to legendary performances, each tournament adds new chapters to the beautiful game's history. #euro2020 #europeanchampionship #footballhistory #UefaEuro2024 #paneuropeantournament #soccerfacts #EuroTrivia #footballculture #sportingevents #internationalfootball #europeanfootball #footballtournament #EURO2024 #sportstrivia #footballfans #beautifulgame #SoccerHistory #europeansports #FootballHeritage #SportingAchievement

🚨 Another UWCL season is in the books. The final saw the current two best teams in the world coming face to face with FC Barcelona winning their 3rd title overall, their 2nd in a row. They remain far from Lyon's historic 8 UWCL record. A feat I believe will be hard to beat in the coming years. ✔The attendance record for a UWCL final was broken with 50827 spectators present, most of which were Barca fans. ❓Was I surprised? Not really. Barca fans have proven over the last few years that they’re CLUB fans. 💓If they support FC Barcelona, they’ll support ALL of the club’s teams: men’s & women’s football, men’s handball, etc. Something that’s still, unfortunately, missing in Lyon (and all of France actually). And that is, in one way or another, preventing the development of French women’s football. But there are other reasons as well. 😌The game is stuck in a vicious circle and it seems like there’s no way out of it anytime soon: ◻ TV visibility is at a minimum compared to other championships. The final wasn’t even broadcast on live French TV… ◻ In most clubs, the women’s side is not the priority. I’m not going to go into the details of this situation, but if you’re interested, you can read about what’s happening with Brest and Orléans. ◻ The gap between the two major clubs (OL & PSG) & the other clubs impacts the league as it becomes less attractive with fewer ways of innovation. Seeing historic clubs such as Marseille, Nice, and Monaco play in the first division MIGHT increase this attractiveness. ◻ The FFF is trying to counterattack this with the play-offs system… But it is not fair for the leading club and watching OL smash Stade de Reims 6-0 is surely not going to raise the interest in the league. ◻ And lastly, players have a role to play. Not only on the field but outside of it too. They should be vocal, demand better conditions, demand to be treated professionally, etc. Kenza Dali said it when I interviewed her a few days ago. "What makes the difference between England and France is not the football. I’ve played in both leagues and I tell you, the quality of football is not better. It’s the marketing. They’re so much better there. In France, They’ve got the best players in the world there and they’re not doing anything to promote it.” You can read the interview here: https://lnkd.in/dcWETUEB What do you think? Why is French women's football stagnating?
