Can a building communicate with its community? With this question in mind, this July, we will explore how architecture can unite and activate communities. By looking at projects where architectural elements have been thoughtfully designed to foster interaction, inclusivity, and a sense of belonging, we aim to understand the ways in which buildings can serve as active participants in the social fabric of their surroundings. To begin with, let’s look at Theatre Agora. With its kaleidoscopic and upbeat character through a multi-faceted and colorful appearance, Theatre Agora forms a welcoming gesture to the world of the performing arts. The liveliness in the choice of the building’s façade and massing encourages an innovative interaction between the architecture, the object and the public in the previous pragmatic town centre of Lelystad.
