Lecture | UNStudio Associate Director and Seniro Architect Tina Kortmann is giving a lecture at the polisFORUM course lecture Holistic Urban Ecosystems tomorrow. This lecture is the second in a series of three. In its theme, the transformation to a knowledge society makes teaching and research buildings driving forces for urban futures. Campuses - whether conceived from the perspective of research or corporate organisation - form value- and knowledge-creating counterparts at the neighbourhood level. In this course, Tina Kortmann will take a look at these typologies and present the respective space-defining ideas that promote knowledge transfer and collaboration, trigger identification and charisma, and combine functionality, sustainability and aesthetics. The lecture will be held online. Thrilled to share my latest publication in Buildings - a Q1 journal in Architecture - titled "Architectural Typology and its Influence on Authentic Living," which is now available online. https://lnkd.in/d78TS6rx This work is a confluence of architecture and philosophy, looking into hermeneutic phenomenology, existentialism, and architectural techniques to explore how architectural typologies shape the existential well-being of residents. The paper discusses the shift from traditional to contemporary designs through empirical and phenomenological research, underlining the influence of political decisions and globalized construction materials. I invite fellow professionals, and researchers in architecture, philosophy, and sustainability to read and share your thoughts on this research paper. https://lnkd.in/diPgiKi3 #Architecture #Philosophy #Sustainability #CommunityDesign #ExistentialWellbeing #HermeneuticPhenomenology #AcademicPublishing MDPI

Made this animation for the IABR which is inspired by the IPCC report on biodiversity and climate change, p. 130. This 11th edition has the most interesting and urgent topic! Clear your calendar for the 26 June to 20 October 2024 to visit the show Under the title Nature of Hope, the 11th edition of the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam examines nature, culture and hope from the perspective of architectural thought and action, as a driving force for social change. What does it take to face uncertainty about the future in a time of profound and multiple transformations – in other words, what are the building blocks we need to remain hopeful?
We have a big announcement to make! 📣 The theme and curator team of IABR 2024: Nature of Hope Under the title Nature of Hope, the 11th edition of Architecture Biennale Rotterdam examines nature, culture and hope from the perspective of architectural thought and action, as a driving force for social change. By focusing on the conditions for hope, the Architecture Biennale Rotterdam 2024 will contribute to rebuilding social and knowledge infrastructures so that problematic ways of working can be abandoned and alternative ways of working strengthened. Architectural thinking as a flywheel for change! The IABR 2024 Curator Team consists of architect and researcher Janna Bystrykh architect-researcher and philosopher Catherine Koekoek, researcher and writer Hani Salih, spatial designer and researcher Alina Paias, and designer and writer Noortje Weenink. The curator team, whose members come from different backgrounds but share a common basis in spatial design, manifests the change that is already underway. When? 26 June to 20 October 2024 Where? at Nieuwe Instituut We hope to welcome you at Nature of Hope in 2024! Hello connections, I am thrilled to share with you that my very first working paper titled "Effects of Micro-Gentrification" was successfully presented at an Online national Research Conference - New trends in Architecture and Planning and published in the book "New Trends in Architecture". This research explores the often-unforeseen consequences of seemingly minor resident-driven changes in a neighborhood and their long term impacts on the residents. Along with the architectural implications of micro gentrification, focusing on resident-initiated alterations aimed at expanding living spaces. Micro gentrification, is an urban phenomenon, often leads to architectural modifications in existing residential structures and examines the architectural, structural, esthetic, and psychological impacts of these alterations within individual residences. I would like to thank MBS SPA, Prof. V.K.Bugga, Prof. Bandana Jain, Ar. Mahima Sharma and Ar.AKSHITA JAIN and the entire jury panel for their hard work in organizing this conference and giving me the opportunity to present my work. I'm incredibly grateful to my esteemed professors, Ar. DEEPAK KUMAR and Ar. Toshi Sharma, for their invaluable guidance and support throughout the process of this research paper. The attached conference proceedings booklet has all the research papers published with ISBN Number: 978-93-340-0368-0. My research paper is from page 62-69. Thank You All. #research #architecture #microgentrification #urbantrajectories #communitydevelopment #humanpsychology #spacepsychology

"Architecture of First Societies: A Global Perspective" by Mark Jarzombek explores the architectural achievements and practices of early human societies around the world. The book takes a global approach, examining how various cultures and civilizations approached architecture in their unique environments. Reflecting on the book's exploration of environmental adaptation, how has your view on the relationship between the environment and architecture evolved throughout your career? Share your thoughts! #architecture #history #mit #art #society #design #designbuild #texas #realestate #architecturedaily

Integrating the existing contexts in the generative urban framework, on which I've been working for my master's thesis. This base framework is designed to be extended for the analysis and optimization of urban neighborhoods, focusing on critical energy and environmental factors. Through this approach, the aim is to identify and implement the best possible mutations for urban areas, ensuring sustainability and efficiency. The final framework will not only advance our understanding of urban planning but will also offer practical solutions for creating greener, more sustainable communities. As I approach the conclusion of my master's program, I am actively looking for opportunities and collaborations in architecture, urban and computational/parameteric design. #urbandesign #computationaldesign #architecture #sustainability #urbanplanning

The 2023-2024 Public Programs theme, For/From: Considering Origins. O’Donnell+Tuomey 4/10 The Clarkson Chair in Architecture Hayes Hall Wednesday at 6 p.m. Free and open to the public. https://lnkd.in/gy6g6gEq "As a globalized society, our identities and origins are often complicated and dynamic. The ideas of ‘from’ and ‘for’ directly probe this complexity. One may be removed or distanced from where one originated, one may return after years of being away, or one may have never left in the first place. In response to these relationships, the Public Programs speakers for the 2023-24 academic year will address the significance of origin to the architecture and planning disciplines. Whether these relationships are natural, adopted, forced, planned, or unexpected, the standpoints will afford a critical reflection on what it is to think, teach, and practice design for the place, culture, people, and/or species from which the designer originates." Article by myself and Maarit Mäkelä published in the Research in Arts and Education Journal. "This practice-led research article explores how post-humanist and eco-feminist perspectives of entanglement and relationality challenge human exceptionalism as a basis for making architecture in the process of the Alusta research pavilion. Multisensory spatial experience, material circulation and more-than-human temporalities are explored through building a temporary pavilion for multispecies encounters in an urban museum setting. Reflecting on the project, an architectural space is understood as a continuous process of becoming enacted by various human and nonhuman forces instead of as a stable object with a sole human author. Architecture is reimagined as part of the web of care sustaining all life." https://lnkd.in/dq9VY64N
