I absolutely hate this sentence coming from interns - “I am not expecting a salary; I just want experience”. Let's unpack this together. 🧐 While valuing experience is commendable, it's essential to consider a few key points: 1️⃣ Your Skills Hold Value: As an intern, your skills contribute significantly to the team. It's crucial to recognize the worth of your expertise and time. Moreover, it gives an impression that you don’t consider yourself skillful enough. 2️⃣ Financial Realities: Acknowledging the importance of fair compensation aligns with the practicalities of life. Your dedication deserves recognition. 3️⃣ Setting a Standard: Your choices influence the expectations for future interns. Advocating for fair compensation paves the way for a supportive work culture. In conclusion, it's not an "either-or" situation; it's about finding equilibrium. 🎉 Celebrating as a team is not just about marking achievements but also about the invaluable connections we forge. Our team has a strong bond, although we might not see each other in person daily since we all have - and truly appreciate - the WFH option. However, our team has shown that distance doesn't hinder our strong team spirit and team approach to work. That's also because we take the time to celebrate together. This week, we had a wonderful birthday to appreciate and a farewell to our fabulous interns in our Vinnies Victoria marcomms team - which was, of course, also a bit sad 😑 Welcoming interns after a while was really enriching. They brought fresh perspectives that let us see new horizons for our work and highlighted the importance and joy of working collaboratively and sharing the good moments. As you can see, even celebrating remotely can be inclusive. Today is #InternDay, and we wanted to highlight the benefits that come from investing in internships 💡 By doing so you can attract potential future employees, making it easier to recruit top talent. In turn you give the opportunity for someone to gain real-world experience and develop valuable skills whilst bringing a fresh perspective to your team. Interns - don't let the summer go by without expressing your desire to work at your company full time, either this fall or sometime in the future. 👉 Many interns may feel intimidated or uncertain about expressing their interest in a full-time position, but it’s critical to communicate your intentions early on. 👉 Ask your supervisor what it takes for an intern to receive a full-time offer — they will recognize this as a sign of ambition and even offer guidance to reach those goals. 👉 If you end up really liking the program and find yourself a great fit, you’ll be in a better position to receive an offer.

I see on my feed so many interns are starting their brand new summer internship and some starting later (We will be welcoming our interns next week can't wait!). For some this may be your 2nd or third internship and for others it may be your first! As you navigate this new journey, here are some tips I would recommend- Also fellow early career recruiters feel free to share some additional tips in the comments! 1. Try to attend any or all events your program has for you. This will be a great opportunity for you to meet your fellow interns and fellow employees. 2. Try to network with leaders outside of your manager and team. This will not only help you build connections and networking skills but also learn about the company you will be working for. 3. When feedback happens, learn from your feedback. Feedback is a good thing actually and a way for you to become a stronger employee but also a way to enhance your current skills. 4. Be okay to ask questions, we don't learn if we don't ask. 5. If your company has ERN/affinity groups, try to join one or more! This would be a great way to meet people with similar identities as you and learn from those in other lines of business. 6. As always, enjoy this summer and take in all the knowledge that you can!
