We warmly welcome WithSecure in its new headquarters! The timber-framed #office building in #Helsinki is completed an handed over. It is one of the first buildings in Finland to be aligned with the EU taxonomy. Union Investment acquired the #building in the Wood City district of Helsinki’s Jätkäsaari submarket as a development in 2022 from leading Finnish construction company SRV on behalf of institutional real estate fund UniInstitutional European Real Estate. “We are also pleased that this building was completed on time and thank SRV for the good cooperation. Back in 2018, we set ourselves the goal of achieving #climate #neutrality with our global real estate portfolio by 2050. WithSecure’s new headquarter in Wood City fits perfectly with this strategy”, says Martin Schellein, Head of Investment Management Europe, Union Investment. The office has been designed to be extremely #energy #efficient, and will both optimise energy consumption and recycle energy during occupancy. Over 200 square metres of #solar panels have been installed on the office building’s roof. The Building has an energy class of A. #realestate #sustainability

Ambitious but the right step forward to drive embodied carbon reduction for Finland. The local authority is doing a great job at this, setting it as part of the planning requirement. Malaysia is sadly still very far behind. We have yet to even set a limit on operational carbon and advanced countries have already started setting limits on embodied carbon. Hopefully with the upcoming GreenRE v4.0 mandating disclosure of embodied carbon for all buildings, it allows for collection of these data, leading to determining of the average baseline value and ultimately setting reduction targets.
