This week, millions of lives across the United States are being disrupted by unusually high temperatures, posing significant physical risks for residents and economic challenges for cities. We examine how the real estate community and the built environment can future-proof designs to enhance resilience against extreme weather. What design features do you consider most urgent to include in your communities and buildings? It’s problematic that ULI is referring to the CDC’s report because it means that the projections and statements are all wrong. The CDC’s report refers back to the 2000 IPCC Report on Climate scenarios and extracts data from that. We had a much different understanding of climate change and it’s impact on weather back in 2000. We need to stop referring to old climate data and need to ensure that all of the recent publications and data provided is the most current.

Great post! Heat-resilient strategies and structures will be great for the changing climate

Very important fact and something that requires to be considered in any development. There are many examples around the globe, we should learn from them. Good to see ULI making an effort to raise awareness of this topic.

That is a great post, would love to see more detail on each of the strategy proposed. Local government should also include these strategies into their policies and city regulations.

Hands down, no question - Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) construction with renewable energy systems (microgrids).
