This is a great report calling for the necessary rigor in developing AI (fairness, transparency, robustness, etc.) assessment / auditing tools, and showing that governance guidance documents often make immature recommendations. Also has a very comprehensive and useful overview of such guidance documents across the world + their characteristics! "Our work found that AI governance tools used in most regions of the world for measuring and reducing risks and negative impacts of AI could introduce novel, unintended problems or create a false sense of confidence unless accompanied by evaluation and measurement of those tools and their effectiveness and accuracy" Detailed discussions of XAI methods such as LIME and SHAP and their respective limitations, as well as issues related to AI fairness assessments. Reducing things that we haven't even understood well at a scientific level ("explainability", "fairness") to standardized checks or recommendations to use ad-hoc, unreliable tools will not end well. I also see this as a call for us researchers to synthesize actionable conclusions on what *should* be done (as opposed to just pointing out all the issues with existing "solutions", as I also like to do).

Phd Student: Privacy-preserving federated learning on vertically partitioned data at Maastricht University
Our new article "VertiBayes: learning Bayesian network parameters from vertically partitioned data with missing values" has just been published in Springer Complex and Intelligent Systems. In it we present a #Privacy #Preserving approach to train a Bayesian network in a vertically partitioned federated setting based on our earlier work with the privacy preserving n-party scalar product protocol. Many thanks to the other authors Lianne Ippel Andre Dekker & Inigo Bermejo for their help. https://lnkd.in/ek_WnecZ
