3- and 5 axis deburring are out, and 11 axis deburring is in! An 11-axis system completely revitalizes any operation. With it, you’ll find that every angle is reachable, as the multitude of axes provides an impressive 360-degree work envelope. Why is this significant? Well, there’s a couple reasons: 1. Operators no longer have to adjust tools by hand in order for all sides to be reached. 2. Any part or gear is fair game, no matter how complex they may be. This means both IDs and ODs are accessible and can be deburred reliably and precisely. 3. Time saved between cycles grows drastically as the machine is able to adjust the position of parts itself. This groundbreaking development in the deburring industry has been made possible with the MAX, an all-encompassing deburring and chamfering machine manufactured by James Engineering. Jim Richards, founder of James Engineering, explained how an 11-axis machine is made possible… On top of the MAX are two towers, or heads, each with the capacity to hold up to 3 tools that run concurrently (making up to 6 operations possible at one time). Each head is capable of 5 axis motion—they reach the usual X, Y, and Z axes, and are paired with pitch and an adjustable contact angle. When both towers are combined, 10 axes work together to deburr parts perfectly. The 11th axis is then provided by the rotary table installed at the bottom of the MAX, which turns the parts without operator intervention. “A simple but effective design,” says Richards. “Effective” would be a simple way to put it. This design revolutionizes any deburring and chamfering operation, speeding up a formally time-consuming task while simultaneously providing a precision unmatched when done by hand or CNC. The MAX, the only deburring system on the market with 11-axes, does what no other machine is capable of.
