30.11.2023 Let's write internship and thesis. It's time to reflect on this incredible journey. A heartfelt thank you to FEV Europe GmbH for the platform given to build up my practical know-hows. These 8 months flew by, surrounded by supportive colleagues and bosses, einfach wunderbar! Furthermore, working together with colleagues from diverse academic backgrounds and experiences was a joy. The vast sea of knowledge I experienced was, einfach krass! Approaching the second phase to complete my thesis presented an absolute challenge. Seeking advice from senior engineers on thesis writing and one memorable response stood up: "You're expecting engineers to write? heads up, address the problem that matters". What a way to begin the new year! Two weeks ago, we kicked off the 2024 strategic planning for Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s The Michigander Scholars program at Michigan Central in Detroit. Thanks to Victoria Waters of University of Michigan’s Mcity, James Hill of Michigan Technological University, Garth Motschenbacher, SPHR of Michigan State University, Dale Pilger and Doug Bourassa of Kettering University, and Gozde Tutuncuoglu of Wayne State University for their insight, experience, and wisdom as we embark on year 2 of the program. Thanks also to my MEDC Talent Solutions team members for helping to ensure our program and projects have the biggest impact possible by connecting our partner organizations and resources to the program: Crystal Ackerman, Joseph Kaczmarek, MBA, Chelsey Averill, and, taking the photo, Beth Swanson. The Michigander Scholars program is one of the MEDC Talent Solutions’ initiatives to help build the tech talent pipeline for Michigan’s key focus industries and employers. We are pleased to announce the signing of a collaboration between National Taiwan University (the #69th best university worldwide acc to the QS World University Rankings 2024) and ATG for participation in NTU Overseas Internship Program. The aim of the cooperation is to jointly develop the abilities of talented students through innovative education and participation on practical, real-life projects in an international environment. Due to that students are given the opportunity to acquire complex skills and knowledge needed to successfully enter the current labor market.   University´s rigorous assessment preselected 7 motivated students eager to deep dive into the field of NDT during the 3-month internship in ATG. After the interview held in early February in ATG, it is already clear on who will be admitted for the internship for the upcomming summer!   ATG is determined to cooperate with prestigious universities worldwide to bring knowledge about NDT to future young engineers. However, there are many advantages to attending a #tier3 #college, which is a smaller, less well-known institution. One of the 'main advantages' of attending a Tier 3 college is that they often have smaller class sizes, which can lead to a more personalized learning experience. Professors are more likely to know their students on a first-name basis and provide individual attention. Additionally, Tier 3 colleges are often less expensive than their Tier 1 counterparts, making them a more affordable option. However, there are also some "disadvantages" to attending a Tier 3 college. These colleges may not have the same level of resources as larger universities, which can limit opportunities for #research, #internships, and other experiences. Additionally, Tier 3 colleges may not have the same level of prestige as Tier 1 universities, which can impact job prospects after #graduation. Meet some of our summer interns this year! This is what Sofie Saga Fabian Anton Anton Oskar and Petter think so far: "Freedom and flexibility to plan one's work is very nice. Our supervisors are good at ensuring enough assignments for the summer so it should not get boring at work. Also, you feel no pressure, there is an understanding that you are new and can't know everything." "It feels like you will get to learn a lot. It's nice to see how the things you study actually work in real life." This summer we offer different assignments and projects in customer project teams, development teams, and in our workshop. The tasks vary from creating models, automatize, using C++ to hands-on work with cars. One of our summer interns will also continue working at NIRA during the autumn as a test driver which we are very happy about. During my time in college, I realized that the focus was mostly on theory-based learning. While understanding theories is important, it's not enough for us engineering students. We need more hands-on experience and exposure to real industry practices. The gap between what we learn in the classroom and what happens in the real world is a big issue. Without practical experience, we're not fully prepared for the challenges we'll face in our careers. In fields like engineering and technology, being able to apply what we learn in real situations is crucial. Hands-on projects, internships, and lab work help us understand concepts better and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. They show us how things work in real life and prepare us for the workplace. Industry experience is also vital. It gives us a look at current tools, technologies, and methods used by professionals. This experience makes us more adaptable and competitive when we start our careers. Colleges need to balance theory with practice. Adding more project-based learning, partnerships with companies, and internships to the curriculum can make a big difference. It's time to shift towards an approach that gives students both the knowledge and the skills they need to succeed. We should support changes that provide more practical experiences for students.
