The following collision simulation shows a collision that occurred on a country road between a pickup truck and a pedestrian that was crossing the roadway. The dynamics of the crash are well represented, including the motion of the pedestrian from impact to final rest and the dynamic braking/deceleration of the truck prior to impact and extending to final rest. In their latest work published in Nature Communications Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Aty, and Doctoral Candidate shengxuan ding develop a matched case-control analysis of automated vs human-driven vehicle crashes. They use a rich dataset comprising more than 2,100 automated and 35,000 human-driven vehicle (HDV) crashes from 2019 to 2023. Based on the model estimation results, it can be concluded that in most crash scenarios, vehicles equipped with ADS are generally safer compared to the HDV due to their object detection and avoidance systems, precision control, and better decision-making. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eiRVU-U6 (💥open access 💥)
