While the M&A landscape is littered with failures, some companies learned, deal after deal, how to substantially boost the odds of success in their favor. Great insights on how companies are achieving success: - Having a focused yet agile and ambitious corporate strategy - Establishing a dedicated team to manage the deal process end-to-end - Going beyond financial due diligence into talent and culture assessments, synergy benchmarking etc. - Accelerating integration planning and governance Still.... Where are companies falling short? Companies underinvest in communications. They underinvest in establishing a “sponsorship spine” to ensure everyone is on board with the inevitable changes. BREAKING NEWS: You bought a company. Bravo. Now what? Acquisition of EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization) was all the rage in 2021, a good bit of 2022 and continued to hit the radar, albeit less often, in 2023. #mergersandacquisitions signaled progress, growth and corporate momentum. But few had detailed plans for an #integration #strategy. Even fewer knew how to communicate the means through which they would protect or adapt the #cultures of the organizations in question while optimizing both the #operations and #productivity of the newly combined enterprise. Now rising interest rates, inflation and a reduced pool of capital are forcing organizations to recognize growth-by-balance-sheet-acquistion isn't enough. There has to be an #ROI on not only the acquisition, but on #dataingestion, creating operational #efficiencies and defining #metrics to gauge the success or failure of the #acquisition. And, with this approach, a #communicationstrategy is needed to ensure the messaging to your #boardofdirectors, #investorsgroup, #employees and other key stakeholders demonstrates a highly focused approach to meaningful success, and not merely growth for growth's sake.
