🚨WEB DESIGNERS🚨 This is a super important & often overlooked aspect when relaunching a website redesign. Make sure the new site has the SAME primary domain structure — see Matthew’s notes & example below 👇 When I was doing website design in the beginning of my business journey, I had ZERO idea that this was crucial for SEO. And since focusing on SEO, I’ve seen this switcharoo happen, thankfully being there working on the project at the time, to catch it before traffic started to drop.

My number one SEO recommendation for a redevelopment project: do not change www usage. Here is why: Google treats www.asite.com as a different domain than asite.com. If you change from one to the other and add redirects, then Google has to process those redirects to update every URL on your website. Processing redirects and updating every URL in the database takes time and costs you traffic while you wait. Often traffic doesn't return to the same levels even if Google picks up on the change. You can see the impact of making this change in the screenshot. This website removed www during a redevelopment project and traffic was lost almost immediately. The non-www website got some traffic but not nearly as much. This company reverted and after a few more weeks, traffic finally started to return. To be clear, www or no www can both rank in search results. The point is, though, once you have picked www or non-www as the canonical version of your domain, do everything you can to keep it that way. #seo #technicalseo

I share tips on how to grow a record label | Building ReleaseLoop in public. A project management tool for record labels.
4 months ago, I mentioned my plan was to 10x ReleaseLoops web traffic within a year. 4 months later, I'm making significant progress. In the last three months, I have had 32k impressions and 615 clicks from Google, compared with 1.5k impressions and 108 clicks three months before that. I'm aiming for 200K impressions and around 3-4K clicks on Google per month. Do you bother with SEO?
