🥇 Another worldwide industry first: food-grade plastic sorting 🥇 TOMRA’s GAINnext™ is an AI-powered sorting system for recover food-grade plastic packaging (PET, PP, HDPE) for recycling. The technology uses deep learning algorithms and object recognition to sort food-grade vs non-food grade plastics efficiently at scale. What’s more, it achieves over 95% purity levels in PET, PP, HDPE without manual sorting. Advantages of GAINnext™: ➡️ Identifies hard-to-classify objects that traditional optical sorting equipment cannot ➡️ Reduces the need for manual sorting and manual testing for quality assurance ➡️ Processes multiple material streams on a single sorting line ➡️ Future-proof and adaptive technology with a wide application ecosystem Want to learn more about this exciting new technology? https://lnkd.in/eYJGRvjg #TechForGood #AI #PlasticRecycling #TOMRA

Using AI for recycling! In the framework of a call for projects by Citeo, a collaborative research project led by led by Recycleye, Valorplast, and TotalEnergies has achieved a world first towards food-grade polypropylene mechanical recycling. ✨ The project, called OMNI, leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computer vision to identify and separate food-grade PP from household post-consumer wastes. 🔎 After 18 months of research, the AI and robotic sorting achieved a successful pick rate of 50% of the food-grade material, with >95% purity. TotalEnergies then leveraged its polymer expertise to produce odorless, clean rPP suitable for high-end packaging applications. ♻ The novel developed process opens new opportunities for circularity of polypropylene packaging and will positively contribute to our ambition to produce 1 million tons of circular polymers by 2030. 🔗 More information: https://lnkd.in/ejGDa6aa #TotalEnergiesIndustrySolutions #Recycling #Sustainability #Innovation #Polymers #Artificialintelligence
