Yesterday Massimo Comparini, Deputy CEO of Thales Alenia Space and CEO of Thales Alenia Space in Italy, joined the opening event of the "Galileo and Satellite Navigation" exhibition, organized by Permanent Representation of Italy to the International Organisations and on display until 28 June in the "La Passerelle" gallery of the prestigious "Pierre et Marie Curie" Science Campus of the Sorbonne Université in #Paris. #Galileo is a flagship program of the European Union, managed and funded by the European Commission. Since the program’s inception, European Space Agency - ESA is leading the design, development and qualification of the space and ground systems, as well as procuring launches. Thales Alenia Space was involved in every development phase of the first-generation Galileo system, in charge of system support, the Galileo Mission Segment and the Galileo Security Facility. In 2021, our company was selected by ESA, acting for the European Commission, to build six of the 12 new satellites for the Galileo Second Generation sovereign constellation. In July 2023, we signed contracts with ESA and the Commission to design and build the Galileo Second Generation mission ground segment and to provide technical support for systems engineering with our European partners. On March 2024 we also signed a contract with European Space Agency to deliver an end to end solution for the LEO-PNT (Low Earth Orbit Positioning Navigation and Timing) orbit demonstrator. Adding a LEO-PNT constellation layer to the Galileo GNSS, combined with improved user receivers, will unlock new applications and economic growth while bringing essential environment benefits reducing CO2 emissions through fuel saving and a more efficient energy network. #spaceforlife #galileo

LusoSpace has sealed a significant deal with AAC Clyde Space in a momentous stride toward advancing Portugal's space capabilities. This project, backed by the Portuguese Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência (PRR), aims not only to strengthen the national space capacity but also to generate commercially viable opportunities.   The ambitious plan of LusoSpace involves the development and deployment of a constellation of 12 satellites, each equipped with crucial VDES payloads. Proud to represent Sarah Cannard and SmartSat CRC on the final panel of the Space Industry Association of Australia’s Southern Space Symposium today moderated by Nicole Seils GAICD with Christopher Hewett from the Australian Space Agency, Elaine Ogden from the Office of Defence Industry Support (ODIS), and Anamika Mishra from the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade). Highlights: * the NRF does include Space as a key enabling technology * SmartSat programs - Aquawatch (water quality), Kanyini (Inovor Technologies satellite bus tech demonstrator), Maya Nula (Agricultural impact), Scarlet-α (Autonomous spacecraft / AI) and its Defence Program - all these will be looking to scale up and not end once they hit final SmartSat project milestones… so start exploring how you might be able to collaborate as a +1 now * ODIS exists to help SMEs get qualified to work with defence… please reach out via odis.contact@defence.gov.au * Austrade is regularly running space-focused trade missions - like the one to Nihonbashi Space Week in Tokyo at the end of November - as well as in partnership with Team Defence Australia and other programs, with space-connected teams in key markets worldwide. The panel also marks the hard launch of the Space Industry Association of Australia’s Industry Capability Database with the support of Austrade, Defence and SmartSat CRC. Finally, panelists were asked to comment on Australian industry’s participation in the global space supply chain set to exceed $1Tn likely by early 2030s, and all agreed that the global space industry is starting to change rapidly, barriers are coming down, and Australian companies are expected to be / will be welcomed as more active participants in the global supply chain by international players. As I am heading to #Satellite2024, I only find the time to share some thoughts on the great #MWC24 that took place 3 weeks ago. Never too late and certainly of interest for discussions in DC. A short version of my takeways: 💡 #AI not not #AI: Turning into an existential question, with AI mentions, solutions and flavors at every corner of the tradeshow, 🌐 More and more of an #ICT global tradeshow. While #MNOs are central players here, the entire digital ecosystem is there. As usual, global representation, with large presence of US, Europe and Asian stakeholders. 🛰 Satellite community had a noticeably larger presence, led by satellite operators, but with also more service and solution providers. Clearly a rising curiosity/interest from MNOs, which I believe remains largely to convert into investment decisions. But dynamics are there. Higher performance of satellite solutions, and stakes for MNOs (global access, sovereignty, resilience requirement while facing more natural disasters and other risks) are supporting the trend. Key topics for the future integration of satellite involve new generation capabilities led by LEO and multi-orbit (under the condition it is user friendly including for terminals). Interesting case studies and demos (thanks for example - non extensive list to European Space Agency - ESA, SES Satellites, Intelsat, Hispasat and Greenerwave teams for their briefings and demos). 5G integration is also high on the agenda (while MNOs already start looking at 6G). And I had the great pleasure of moderating a session on Our Epic Journey Beyond Earth, combining the race for the space exploration and human spaceflight with the need to further partner with the broader ICT community. Certainly a new topic at #MWC. Thanks to Zoey Shi who was a great support to make the session happen, and to Clint Crosier (Maj Gen, Air Force/Space Force Retired), Davide Petrillo, Manlio Di Stefano and Antonio Franchi for the great discussion. Looking forward to meetings, discussions, and fun in Washington DC this week. I will be there with our team coming from our DC, Canadian and European offices.
