A recent Innovation focused event hosted by Piper at Eat Real + PROPER | WARP Snacks HQ with inspiring words by Proper founder Cassandra Stavrou MBE had us thinking about our own innovation at Small Beer Brew Co. The responsible production innovation led by Felix James and our brilliant brewing team is one part of our business that we're immensely proud of - beers of exceptional taste up to 2.8% ABV. Then there is innovation within the beer styles that we brew, supported by a welcome stream of requests from passionate Small Beer consumers. This prompted the launch of our Small Batch series and some seriously big thinking when it came to our first two traditional beer style releases - always done in that Small Beer way. Our Witbier combined Hertfordshire Wheat, Sussex grown coriander and Seville Orange, to deliver a bold, spiced, fruit led style. Our Radler enjoyed an abundance of pressed Mangos and freshly juiced lime combined with our very finest Small Beer Lager - happily sitting somewhere between a mimosa & dry shandy, capturing the very essence of Summer. We personally found that innovation can grow an addressable audience ✔ It can also support our ongoing ambitions to change consumer perceptions around what beer can be ✔ Not only this, it is a thanks to our loyal Small Beer drinkers ✔ and continues to give many, another reason to tell friends about Small Beer. After all, there’s no better recommendation than a personal one. #changingperceptions #thinkbig #smallbatch #independentbusiness #businessgrowth #innovation #strategy #strategicthinking #customers Thank you to those who continue to inspire conversations of innovation and "CHEERS" to all who THINK BIG in their fields. With thanks to Yasha Estraikh and Leon Hughes for organising.

As the craft beer community faces uphill battles for the foreseeable future from new entrants to the beverage alcohol space, changing regulatory environments, an unfavorable economy, and finicky new young drinkers, it’s more important than ever for organizations to get strategic with their business plans and infrastructure. This process could feel like “busy work”, but getting clear about how your brewery business drives revenue and how your departments coexist together helps define business goals and improves cross-department communication. Those in craft beer tend to not see the forest because of the trees - we get so caught up in the day-to-day operations that we forget that the organization has multiple working parts, even if you’re a small organization. Those individual parts drive revenue for your business and clear strategic business systems can help you manage them efficiently. Conceptualizing your brewery business as an ecosystem, where all those parts work together towards a common goal and cannot exist without one another, is a great way to define systems for your business that will lead to long-term success. Understanding and defining how each department compliments the others can also help you identify strengths and weaknesses, so you can proactively stay ahead of the game. This session will explore how to conceptualize your brewery as a business ecosystem and identify how each department contributes to the overall goal of profitability. Attendees will walk away with fresh ideas about how to approach the management of their business, how to identify their own set of strategic business goals for each department, and how to improve communication amongst brewery departments. 🍻 150 years ago this fall, a German immigrant named Adolph Coors brewed his first beer in Golden with Rocky Mountain spring water. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: The birth of Coors in 1873 launched a global beer empire, transformed the brewing industry and created a Colorado mystique that defines the state to this day. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆: The brewery in the foothills west of Denver — the second-biggest in the world and largest in the U.S., producing 10 million barrels a year — is facing an existential crisis as beer sales decline and a new generation of drinkers moves toward alternative and healthier beverages. • In 2022, Molson Coors posted its steepest decline in U.S. volume in the modern era, down 5% or 2.2 million barrels, according to economists at the Boulder-based Brewers Association.
