Everytime someone asks me to judge a panel of entrepreneurs, I try my best to impart the little knowledge I've learnt over 9 years. But this time, I found that I learnt so much more from these women entrepreneurs than I managed to impart: 1. You can be running any business at all (there was a vanilla farmer there). As long as you have passion in it, you can create something that is profitable and has great impact. 2. Not every business has to raise money. Raising money implies that certain strategic options are closed forever, so think very very carefully about whether you need capital and from whom. 3. Surround yourself not just with entrepreneurs, but people of a wide range of backgrounds. Hanging out with only entrepreneurs will reinforce any tunnel vision you have, but hanging out with people of a wide range of background will "bring you back to the mean" and stop you going on crazy tangents in life.

To reach women at the last mile more efforts are needed in hand-holding for awareness, access, and onboarding on platforms like Udyam Assisted Portal, GeM, and other schemes. Gender-segregated data and information on demand could definitely help in uptake of Government purchases by Women’s Groups through GeM. There is a need for investing in Bridge Institutions that can make women ‘Credit willing ‘ and ‘Credit Ready’ as pointed out by MSC in a study with SEWA Bharat.
On March 11th, 2024, SEWA Bharat’s National Coordinator, Sanchita Mitra was a panelist at the ‘Investing in Women: From Education to Employment and Entrepreneurship’ event, organized by UN Women. The session titled ‘Women’s Entrepreneurship: Focus on Climate Resilient Technologies’ sought to delve into the critical intersections of gender, livelihoods, and climate change, aiming to empower women economically by overcoming barriers such as limited access to resources and recognition, and emphasizing eco-friendly business models. Sanchita ben highlighted SEWA Bharat's efforts in enhancing women's access to finance, the challenges faced by women in becoming credit-ready due to lack of documentation, and the pivotal role of bridge institutions in supporting women entrepreneurs. She underscored the importance of collaborative efforts among civil society organizations, government and private institutions in bridging the gap between women and financial institutions, government schemes, and market linkages. She also emphasized how partnerships with policymakers can address technical hurdles and the need for tailored policies to support women microentrepreneurs. #WomenEmpowerment #ClimateResilience #womenentrepreneurs #SustainableDevelopment #informalwomenworkers #UNWomen #SEWABharat

Business Development Services (BDS) providers play an important role in supporting women-led micro-enterprises, and helping them grow. 🚀 Women-owned and -led enterprises operating in developing countries tend to stay confined to small businesses in the informal sector, and face structural and gendered barriers in accessing resources to grow their enterprises. We studied three priority areas where BDS can play a key role in leveling the playing field for women entrepreneurs: access to #finance, access to #markets, and digital inclusion. UN Women and Value For Women Ltd.’s multi-country study, published in 2023, presents the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs, and highlights solutions that BDS providers can offer in response. We also feature industry examples from organisations like INKOMOKO , We Can, The Asia Foundation, Sinapis, and others who are supporting women entrepreneurs through their programmes: https://lnkd.in/dP6eKeeN Helle Dahl Rasmussen Dr. Robin Bush Juliet Kasiita Alice Waweru Elizabeth Wells Angela Bageine Cherie Blair Foundation for Women TechnoServe Dr. Seema Bhatia - Panthaki Mara Bolis Trina Roy Luis Marquez Aparajita Agrawal Rebecca Fries #MSMEs #WorldMSMEDay #genderinclusion #genderlens #womenentrepreneurs #businessuccess #digitalinclusion

We are proud to have been the lead organisation for the regional study initiated by The Asia Foundation on Building Enabling Environments for Women in Trade in South Asia. We are glad to share the India Country Report, which assesses the business and policy environment in which women entrepreneurs operate and examines the impediments faced by women entrepreneurs in India’s trade growth. It also highlights the much lower participation of women in trade in the South Asian region and suggests how India can enhance the participation of women entrepreneurs in domestic and international markets, particularly in South Asia.
