The train has left the station! 🚆 Today the Belgian 🇧🇪 Parliament transposed the European 🇪🇺 Directive NIS2 into Belgian law. The NIS2 Directive brings a more rigorous regulatory framework that impacts how information security is managed. By extending the scope and depth of mandatory security measures, it ensures that organizations, including Enabel, are better equipped to handle cybersecurity risks. Now, as someone not necessarily being as enthusiastic about Information Security as I am, you might ask: "What does this have to do with me?". Well for me, and I know a lot of people in this domain think the same, Information security is not just a compliance requirement; it's a catalyst for better governance. By strengthening our cybersecurity posture, we not only protect our data and systems but also enhance the support for our colleagues who do the "actual work". Effective information security practices streamline operations and enable our teams to work more efficiently, focusing on delivering their important objectives while setbacks of digital threats are being kept at a minimum. https://lnkd.in/gp_BwHwn

Congratulations on implementing the European NIS2 directive in Belgium! This law protects our critical infrastructure from current risks. It may seem like a burden now, but it will boost your cyber resilience. Remember, if any of your customers are involved with critical infrastructure, NIS2 might apply to you too. XFA can help upgrade your device security to meet NIS2 standards, covering aspects of your supply chain as well. Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium #nis2 #cybersecurity #XFA

NIS2 Directive: Safeguarding Europe’s Digital Landscape Cybersecurity has become a cornerstone for ensuring the resilience and reliability of strategic sectors. In response to the evolving cyber threat landscape, the European Union has introduced the NIS2 Directive, a comprehensive regulatory framework aimed at strengthening the cybersecurity posture of its member states. The NIS2 Directive, formally known as the Directive (EU) 2022/2555, represents a significant leap forward from its predecessor, the NIS1 Directive. It addresses the limitations of the former legislation by increasing its scope to cover a wider range of sectors and digital services deemed essential for social and economic well-being. The NIS2 Directive sets a new standard for cybersecurity and requires a collective effort from all stakeholders. It is not just a regulatory requirement, but a commitment to building a safer digital environment for all. One of the key aspects of the NIS2 Directive is its comprehensive approach. It goes beyond large enterprises to include small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which are an integral part of the EU's internal market. This ensures that all organizations, regardless of size, are equipped to manage cyber risks effectively and maintain a high level of security for their networks and information systems. The Directive categorizes entities as either 'essential' or 'important' based on the criticality of their sector, size or the nature of the service they provide. This classification is crucial as it determines the level of obligations and regulatory scrutiny each entity will face. Entities covered by the NIS2 Directive must adhere to strict security requirements, incident reporting protocols and risk management strategies to protect against cyber threats. For organizations previously covered by the NIS Directive, the transition to NIS2 will require a thorough review of the new provisions and an assessment of how they apply in the context of each EU Member State's regulations. The Directive entered into force on 27 of December 2022, and the Member States have until 17 of October 2024 to transpose it into national law. For more details on the NIS2 Directive, please visit
