"Somehow I’ve lucked out and have an 8yo who thinks secretly reading under the covers past her bedtime is an act of rebellion, and it hasn’t yet occurred to her that her flashlights never seem to run out of batteries." Tweet by Robert McNees @mcnees
At 4 years old, I caught my daughter practicing her handwriting in bed using a book as a "desk" at midnight. I went back to my room and ordered her a lap desk. She's is now 6 and has beautiful handwriting.
I did the same. As I recall my past, when I stated how rebellious I am compare to other high scored studious kids, my father made fun of me by saying is that so? Who used to keep the flashlight on your table regularly, fullly charged? Of course I fought with my parents about it, I do wear glasses now but the elements I read give the heavenly feeling; I would do it again and again. “Books are a uniquely portable magic.” ❤️
My 8-year old daughter reads books under the covers almost nightly. I got her a nightlight that she can wear around her neck to support the habit 😍✅
I remember doing the same thing at her age. Except I put a towel at the bottom of my door to block out light and had my bed lamp turned on. Reading is something we need to encourage more young people to indulge in.
This is true. I used to do that kind of stuff all the time. One day I ran out of batteries. Then I realized that my mom went to my grandparents' for a month. It was really funny 🤣 when I had to ask for money and my mom said, "there is a pair of batteries in the third drawer of my wardrobe." I asked, "how did you know?" Her answer was, "I am your mother, you know."
Ooo how I love this! Reading a book under the covers after lights out ... or in any other place... was my escape from a painful childhood. So thankful for books 🙏 🙏 🙏
