What makes a good foreperson? Two weeks ago I was given the opportunity to become a foreperson to two long-time assistants in Boliden Harjavalta. This proposition was unexpected since I had no previous experience in that kind of position and have no training as well (if you don't count being a mother to three girls and one with special needs). And since I'm quite bad with saying no (I really need to work with that!), I said yes. 😅 To my luck these two ladies are hard-working professionals. 🙂 Coming back to the first sentence of this post - what makes a good foreperson - I wrote the first things that came into my mind. During my 16 years of work experience (and before that during summer jobs, trainee periods, etc.) I have had many different superiors. First of all I want that my superior really listens to me - and gives me answers! Communication is number one. 👌 You need to give constructive feedback - positive and negative when needed. You need to be able to make decisions whether they are positive or negative ones. You need to be empathetic. Every people have they own struggles and difficulties in life and you need to be able to show some empathy. It is not always possible to say yes to every request but in order to keep the worker you need to be able to show some support and even allowances at times. Whether it is a day off or maybe temporary work arrangements. I really hope that I'm able to fulfill expectations - at least I promise to do my best. It’s also good to be open to all tasks, even across team boundaries. I’ve particularly enjoyed having the possibility to learn about new things, and having diverse job tasks. It enables me to effectively manage my time, prioritize tasks, and stay organized. With a clear plan and structure in place, I can work efficiently and meet deadlines. Being structured also helps me stay focused and avoid distractions, resulting in high-quality to which we benchmark ourselves at Bosch. Personally, I also want to aim for effective communication and collaboration with team members as e. g. clear instructions and expectations help me in my daily business to succeed. 👉 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂? The great team I work with is a significant source of motivation for me. The collective effort we all put in pushes me to continuously improve and contribute to our shared success. There is always a sense of community, and you have the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them. This helps me to approach tasks with more courage.   👉 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝗻𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗮𝘆? My favorite way to relax after a long day is to go for a walk in the nature – whether it's a nearby park or a hiking trail. Walking allows me to disconnect from the demands of the day and clear my mind.
