Our sponsored @k9sforwarriors service dog, Atlas, is hard at work training for graduation and to meet his Warrior. 🐾 He recently shared an update from his adventures, and we couldn't wait to pass it along! Hey everyone, it's Atlas! 🏙️ I recently had an exciting outing to Downtown Jacksonville, and it was a day full of new experiences. The highlight was riding the monorail for the first time. 🚅 I felt the wind in my fur as we zipped around the city, and I stayed calm and focused throughout the ride, taking in all the new sights and sounds. After the monorail adventure, we explored the lively streets of downtown, where I got to watch live performers. 🎶 The music and entertainment were fascinating, and I practiced staying attentive to my handler amidst all the excitement. It was a great test of my training, and I’m happy to report that I did pawsitively well. 🐾 To top off our day, we visited a cozy coffee shop where I had the chance to rest and recharge. ☕ The warm, inviting atmosphere was perfect for practicing my relaxation skills, and I enjoyed the peaceful break while my handler enjoyed a delicious coffee. It was a wonderful way to wind down after a busy day of training and exploring. Until next time! 🐶 #K9sForWarriors #SupportOurMilitary #SupportOurVeterans #ServiceDog

Executive Director of Military at Cushman & Wakefield | People-Connector | Business Relationships | Advisor | Talent | US Marine Veteran
In the US Marines everyone crawls through the same mud for months in order to earn the title of Marine. It means, in many cases, that when I run into another Marine on the street years later - we're brothers or sisters. We chewed the same dirt. We struggled the same struggle. We volunteered for the same challenge - and accepted it. This isn't exclusive to the Marines, by the way - just a relative experience I've had. We're asking how to get people back into the office, to build better teams, to create more camaraderie, how to retain top talent...etc. Commonalities in experiences, sharing success, letting people see under the hood of the operation, putting people in the same room for the same experience and allowing them to own and win success is a starting point. People are tribal. We NEED to belong to something. Use this.

Identity Crisis Coach for Veterans 🎖️| I help veterans struggling to find their post-service identity rediscover their purpose and live a #missioncritical life | USMC Vet 🪖 | Podcast Host 🎙️
This one is hard to hear, but it’s the truth. 🤷🏻♀️ As an adult, everything in my life is 100% my fault. ➡️ Both what I CAN control and how I FEEL about what I can’t… You see, I used to be QUEEN of blaming other people for how I felt: 👉🏻 S***** men in my dating relationships… 👉🏻 A toxic leadership environment in the USMC… 👉🏻 Flaky clients… Until I realized, ALL of it was, is, and will forever be MY fault. Not in terms of how I am treated, but in terms of 1️⃣ what I attract, 2️⃣ what I choose to focus on, and 3️⃣ how I choose to feel about it. And when I did that, my whole world changed. 🔑 I realized that if everything was my fault, that meant the ability to solve it was within my power, too. My fault. My fix! And THAT is the most empowering shift I’ve ever made. You can go through life feeling like everything is happening TO you. Or you can go through life accepting that everything is happening FOR you – the good, the bad, and the ugly. Which perspective will you choose? Have a beautiful weekend, everyone! Veteran's Day is unique for me because I was Honorably Discharged from the US Navy on the day after Veteran's Day. This year its been 10 years. For such a life defining experience, there are many skills and habits that I'm proud to have maintained for a decade that serve me professionally. Some that I think a lot of vets can relate to: 1. I still wake up at 4am. The self help gurus and CEOs will say this is part of the path to success. In reality there are many more military and blue collar people who know this hour. The difference is how you use the time. Today I enjoy early mornings for quiet, thinking, planning, exercise, reading and praying. I'm not a guru, nor a millionaire, but I recommend it. 2. I'm still more assertive than corporate America expects. I'm unapologetic about this, but I do watch where I step because its gotten me in trouble. I expect people around me to push themselves as much as I do, and pay attention to detail. There's no environment that demands these things like the military does. Fellow vets will relate when I say that sometimes my passion for this comes off abrasive or insensitive. I rarely mean it to be, but I've come to accept it as part of my personality and I know how to use it when necessary. 3. I find the excitement in adversity. I learned to have fun while hot/cold, exhausted, wet, hungry, in pain, dirty and/or afraid. Since then, nothing truly "sucks". The photo below is of me running a 10K with a 40lb ruck sack on Veteran's Day 2010 on base in Afghanistan. For fun. 4. I look for solutions where least expected. One of my favorite Navy stories is when I replaced corroded fuel lines with IV tubing from the medical tent, or another when I jumped some batteries with cable from a welder. Using the little resources we had, vets learn that sometimes you don't have the right tool for the job, and you have to look where least expected. #cando #seabees Happy Veteran's Day to those who have earned these traits! May you continue to use them for the improvement of our nation.

Read our next inspiring #Veteran spotlight on David, Security Specialist at AIS! “I was going through a stressful period in my early twenties and was unsure about my future. As I was trying to figure things out, my stepfather, a Vietnam veteran, recommended enlisting in the United States Air Force to help give me the foundation I needed. I can still hear him saying, 'The time is going to pass anyway, what else do you have going on?' I thought about that remark over the following month and decided to go for it. In 1998, this 22-year-old Yonkers native was sent to his first duty station, Langley AFB, loading munitions and troubleshooting the leaking pig they called the F-15. About four months later, I left my wife behind on my first deployment, all while unknowingly setting the stage for a demanding, yet rewarding, profession for the next 20 years. During my first assignment, I found myself supervising others who were not much younger than I was. You realize there is more to life when you are put into a leadership role at an early age. You take the blame for others’ mistakes and reward the crew for your accomplishments. I learned not just to become self-sufficient, but to be part of a team, leaning on others when needed to complete an objective. Although I have been retired for the last six years, there have been many times where I felt that I am still transitioning. My post-military life wasn’t seamless, and I felt lost at times along this new path. I joined AIS in 2019 and my department has been there each step of the way. We all understand what it means to be a Veteran and we support one other at every turn.” David’s advice to fellow veterans seeking a successful career in the civilian workforce: Take the journey in stride, stay positive and don’t let ego get in your way. Decide what you really want out of life and make that your goal. It might take some time to get there but don’t give up. Whether you served for four years or 20, make the next chapter worth it. During your service, many choices were most likely already made for you, but this time around, you have the opportunity to create your own. Combine your skills and values with what you love doing and go get it. Read all of this year's spotlights: https://lnkd.in/ezGxmjp9
