Does the use of different feedstocks with varying C/N ratios in biogas production impact the characteristics of the bio-digested slurry, particularly the Carbon to Nitrogen ratio? Please correct me if I am wrong. 1. I believe it doesn't matter whether the feedstock has a high or low C content. Ultimately, you need to maintain the C/N ratio of the anaerobic digester at 20-30, as required for efficient biogas production. High Carbon may lead to acidification, while high Nitrogen can cause ammonification. Therefore, maintaining the C/N ratio is crucial. 2. If the digester operates at the lower end of the optimum C/N ratio, there will be a higher N concentration in the FOM. Conversely, if the digester operates at the higher end of the optimum C/N ratio, the N concentration in the FOM will be lower. However, there will be a fixed range of Nitrogen concentration in the FOM within the 20-30 C/N ratio. #cbg #methane #methanogensis #carbon #nitrogen #anaerobicdigestion

Interested in microbes that convert the three major #greenhouse gases carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O)? Great work by the team of #SungKeunRhee showing that some acidophilic #methanotrophs are capable of (i) respiring #N2O enabling them to grow anoxically while oxidizing a wide variety of electron donors.  (ii) respiring N2O at an extremely acidic pH of 2.0  (iii) oxidizing CH4 and N2O under hypoxic conditions, allowing them to oxidize more CH4 and generate more biomass than in the absence of N2O Check out the pre-print: https://lnkd.in/dhJzd6b7

The #odor nuisance is at the forefront of the concerns expressed by citizens when a #biogasplant is to be implemented in their territory. But odor nuisance can be avoided! The odor emissions from biogas plants often stem from either the storage of the incoming and outgoing material or from CO₂ off-gas that is emitted when #upgrading #biogas to #biomethane . A closed reception hall, equipped with extraction and air treatment units and treatment of the CO2 off-gas where  the most likely culprit is #H₂S, but #mercaptans, organo-sulphur components, and some #vocs such as #terpenes are also possible causes. China: Co-pyrolysis behavior of polylactic acid and biomass from heated tobacco products "The pyrolytic products detected by TG-FTIR showed that the addition of WT-promoted free radical reactions during the co-pyrolysis process as reflected by the reduction of CO and aldehyde. Py-GC/MS results indicated that for PLA/WT= 1:1, the yield of lactide increased threefold, indicating a significant synergistic effect. In summary, the co-pyrolysis of PLA and WT could effectively tap into residual value from discarded HTPs in resource recovery field and solve potential environmental pollution problems." https://lnkd.in/gJ76pxJb
