UMD CS'25 | LinkedIn 6x Top Voice | SWE Intern @ C1 | Incoming SWE Fellow at Headstarter AI | 7-Lang Polyglot | CodePath | App Dev Club | The Tech Cadets Team | Capital One Coders | | I help students land SWE roles
💡 Earlier this week, I attended the Spring 2024 CS Career Fair at my school. Overall, I would say it was a success. 💫 Out of the 10 resumes I printed out, I was able to hand in at least 7 copies. Copies I spoke to: ✅ JPMorgan Chase & Co. ✅ AARP ✅ U.S. Department of Transportation ✅ Marriott International ✅ Cipher Tech Solutions, Inc. ✅ Jacobs Technology ✅ Appian Corporation ✅ Leidos ✅ Ignyte Group ✅ OPIS Tips to get the most out of any career fair: 1️⃣ Research the companies and roles beforehand. 2️⃣ Prepare an elevator pitch that summarizes your current major, past experiences, and the roles you're targeting. 3️⃣ Follow up within 48 hours if not the day before via email or LinkedIn. 4️⃣ Bring multiple copies of your resume. 5️⃣ Take notes! Whether it's on your phone or on a sheet of paper, keep track of companies you've talked to, the company reps you spoke too, and the contact info of potential new connections! 6️⃣ Dress according to the dress code. 7️⃣ Go early! The earlier you go, the more time you get to talk to your most preferred companies. BIG shoutout to the Department of Computer Science, UMD for organizing this event! ~Kevin

Summer ushers in feelings of patriotism and gratitude for the opportunities available in America, especially opportunities for good jobs like those that are becoming abundant in the semiconductor manufacturing sector. Yet despite all the growth in the semiconductor sector, companies are still struggling to find enough talented engineers, scientists, and technicians to staff the new manufacturing sites they expect to come online within the next 2-3 years. This talent shortfall requires industry, state and federal governments, and academic institutions to work together to create unique solutions. Fortunately, programs are being developed and some are focused on training and hiring veterans. Veterans are seen as a key population for filling the current and projected future gap in qualified workers. Their diverse skillsets and discipline make them ideal candidates for the rigor of the semiconductor industry, provided they’re given proper tools and training to make the transition. “We have gone through a massive program of re-skilling veterans for the industry, and we are starting to populate the talent pipeline,” said Ajit Manocha, CEO of SEMI. One semiconductor company with a strong commitment to helping veterans enter the industry is Integra Technologies Inc. Integra works with over 100 programs through their Veterans Hiring Pledge, and hopes this ongoing effort will help them staff the 2,500 new jobs being created in their $2 billion Wichita, KS facility, which Integra hopes to complete in a couple of years. In addition to existing programs, the CHIPS and Science Act sparked a new wave of partnerships between industry and academia. For example, veterans can apply for the 12-week Microelectronics and Nanomanufacturing Certificate Program (MNCP), funded by the National Science Foundation, and led by Pennsylvania State University. The MNCP program began with four regional nodes — Arizona, California, Georgia, and Virginia — then expanded to include New York, Ohio, and Texas. Each node has a community college partnered with a research institute and chip industry companies. There also needs to be a focus on raising awareness about the opportunities available to veterans. Recruiting them often requires hands-on, community-led efforts, including job fairs, advertising, and direct outreach. Our vision for this sector of our industry is that companies can meet their workforce needs by providing career paths for veterans and offering them well-paid, meaningful work that long careers are built on. Yet we recognize some companies lack the resources to engage in the partnerships described above. When urgent needs arise for critical manufacturing or process engineering leadership, we stand ready to help companies find the right talent and create strong teams. Contact our recruiting leadership to learn how we can help your company with these types of needs. 📞 602-866-9600 ✉️info@sbtindustries.com #semiconductorindustry #veterans #talentacquisition

Learning & Development Leader | Semiconductor Manufacturer | Engineer | Community Builder | DEI Advocate
During the #WE23 career fair several students asked what skills or behaviors NXP was looking for in candidates. Here are my personal top four: 🌸 Initiative Imagine this scenario: I have two interns that need to be trained on a task. The first student stops by with a blank notepad and is ready to learn. The second student stops by after already reading the tool manual and/or googling the basics. They come with questions to help fill in knowledge missing from their initial research. For me, I'm going to bend over backwards to help the latter student who prepared before seeing me. 🌸 Curiosity Curiosity indicates interest and drives creativity. Engineers must have the energy and determination to research and understand problems and their solutions and it starts with that natural curiosity. 🌸 Implement Root Cause Solutions The “easy way out” or band-aid solutions usually occur when under pressure, but are not robust and cause future rework. Dig deeper, technical excellence does not just happen. It takes time and effort to address the root case and prevent the problem from ever happening again. 🌸 Resiliency There will always be challenges in our lives. It is how we handle those challenges that determine who we are. It does not matter if you fall down, what matters is how you get back up.

Senior Technical Support Engineer and Digital Writer. I write Educational Email Courses & Newsletters for Creators and Founders (To Increase Newsletter Opt-In Rates & Grow your email list).
I work for one of the best large companies to work for in 2024. (VMware now Broadcom) Here are 3 tips I would give anyone who wants to get into a top company. 1. Get Into the Right Field I graduated Cum Laude from my bachelor’s degree in international business. However, I got zero job offers. My friends who studied IT got offers right away even though their GPA was not the best. We were all international students so it was even harder. I completed my Master in Information Systems and then many doors opened. It was still hard but I had much more options. Many companies were looking to hire in this field. The possibilities on this side of the field were many. 2. Network All the Time I attended many career fairs, professional events, hackathons, info sessions and events even after college just to keep learning and meeting new people. You need to keep expanding your circle to keep expanding your future. Once you connect with someone, add them on LinkedIn. You never know when that person will help you get your next job. A friend referred me to VMware. 3. Increase Your Confidence If you do not have confidence when interviewing you will not get far. How do you increase your confidence? Repetition. If you practice, study, review questions, and prepare for a good amount of time you will believe much more in yourself and perform better. You will know that you did your best. That's it. Is not hard to get started. 1. Get Into the Right Field 2. Network All the Time 3. Increase Your Confidence What other tips would you give to someone to get into a top company?

Operations and Process Queen 👑 | People Strategy, Recruitment, Project Management (I get sh*t done!)
Last week, we hosted our annual Career Strategy Workshop at Stanford University Department of Computer Science, featuring Sanjeev Bode. Our session focused on branding oneself on LinkedIn for engineering/tech roles, and nearly 120 students showed up! Sanjeev dropped major knowledge on the budding talent at Stanford, as they prepare for the career fair this week! Top tips: 1. Do homework on yourself - what makes you unique, what's your story, what excites you? 2. Do homework on companies before the fair - read news about them, read their website and annual reports if they're public, look up their leadership on LinkedIn or YouTube, etc. 3. Strategize your time - look up the full list of companies attending the career fair, and create two lists in advance: list 1 is your "Priority List" of recruiters you must meet before the fair ends; list 2 is your "Nice to Know List" of additional companies you'd like to get to know better if you have extra time after meeting your priority recruiters. (sidebar: this is also my strategy at buffets! 🤣) Have a blast! This is just one way to network and get hired. Don't sweat it, and have fun! #fallrecruiting #recruiting #recruitingseason #infosys #infosysinstep #stanford #computerscience #tech #stem
