A very good article and has some very valid points. Nevertheless, the article will be disputed (if not rubbished) by pro-India and anti-China factions, as is often the case. PM Modi represents a significant improvement over previous leaders, yet his administration falls short of delivering the necessary outcomes. Labels and accolades like "India is the fastest-growing G-20 economy" are mere flattery. Considering India's stage of development, the growth rate should ideally exceed +10%, not hover around +5%. #India #Modi #Growth https://lnkd.in/ekR6ybdt

There are two schools of thoughts on the #Indian #manufacturing story. Both perspectives have merits. 1) one group believes #India can stop focusing on manufacturing in favour of (tech) services to become a developed economy 2) the other group considers manufacturing as the optimum path to get to the developed economy status. Nevertheless, it shows the choices India has — manufacturing vs services — were not available to #Japan, #SouthKorea, #Taiwan, and #China during their economic development. It’s safe to comment, even today, most Asian nations — #Malaysia, #Thailand, #Philippines — are following the manufacturing path to prosperity. #India is in a unique position. On one hand, it enjoys a strong technolgy-driven workforce honed over two decades, contributing to its services exports. On the other hand, as the most populous nation, it also has a large, young demography which can be plugged into manufacturing. Although this workforce might be unskilled, relatively low wages are enough to attract companies. The discussion becomes even more interesting when we add #technology and #geopolitics into the mix. These factors usually determines — at least today — the trade and national policies of all nations. #Friend-shoring, self-reliance, #supply-chain resilience, #privacy and #data #security are no longer just buzzwords. These hot-button topics are reshaping the marketplaces and meeting places — #tradefairs and #conferences — of today. #eventprofs #meetinindia #makeinindia #digitalindia
