Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day, a time to honour and celebrate the heritage, resilience, and rich diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. The art, traditions, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples have largely shaped who we are today. In honour of this significant day, #SyscoCanada welcomed special guest speaker, Susan Aglukark, who performed Nomad, a 60-minute speaking and singing presentation of Canadian Inuit history. We thank Susan and our colleague resource group, Circle, for bringing us togther and for this inspirational and educational session.    As we practice active listening and learning, we continue our path of reconciliation and emphasize our commitment to building a more inclusive environment for all.    #NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay2024 #NIPD2024

Meet Brandi M. from the Ganhada Clan of the Tsimshian First Nations. Brandi is the VP of Credit and the Region Chair of Circle, #SyscoCanada's colleague resource group that advocates for truth and reconciliation within Sysco Canada and educates, nourishes a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all colleagues. Brandi has been instrumental in conceptualizing and developing Circle initiatives since its launch in 2021. Her passion and dedication for creating an inclusive environment for all #Sysco colleagues is admirable. As Brandi shares, "Indigenous History Month means being connected to the earth, the energy, and spirits of my ancestors though prayer and thanks." Meet Jyoti Mehta, CTDP, Communications Coordinator with Asian Professional Exchange (APEX), #SyscoCanada's colleague resource group, which elevates Asian colleagues' growth through professional development, community engagement, and cultural awareness. For Jyoti, #AsianHeritageMonth is "a time for all of us to reflect on the diverse experiences and shared histories, celebrate resilience and success." Jyoti has been instrumental in developing educational resources for #Sysco colleagues this month to learn more about Asian culture and history, including features on Asian heritage sites, Asian textiles, and traditional Asian mental well-being practices. We had a wonderful evening with Sysco International America’s President, Roger Francis and Sodexo Canada’s CEO, Johanne Belanger, in support of the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation.    We were the lucky winners of a custom dinner experience at the Stop Hunger Gala auction last September. Guests were treated to an outstanding menu created by Chef Ken and the Sodexo team. Each dish was a delicious work of art!   Thank you to the Sodexo Team for the lovely meal together and for the impactful work you’re leading through the Stop Hunger Foundation to support food security in Canada.    #SyscoFoodie #StopHunger #SyscoSustainability

We've been celebrating #AsianHeritageMonth all May long at #SyscoCanada. Together with our colleague resource group (CRG), Asian Professional Exchange (APEX), we're using this time as an opportunity to further celebrate this rich cultural heritage, which represents many languages, ethnicities, and religious traditions. As Stephanie Abrenica, CPHR, HR Manager with #SyscoPrairies and Chair of #APEX, shares, "This is a time dedicated for us to learn, celebrate, and educate about the many different Asian cultures and the contributions that Asian people have made in Canada [...] it is a time where I find myself reflecting on the struggles, achievements and growth of my past generations..." Learning from each other and creating safe spaces for sharing our stories is how we honour this significant month! Today, on #MooseHideCampaignDay, we wear our moose hide pins to spread education and awareness of those impacted by domestic violence. We all have a role in ending violence against women and children. #SyscoCanada’s colleague resource group, Circle, has been a strong advocate for Moose Hide Campaign Day for several years – raising awareness of this important date and distributing moose hide pins to colleagues across the country. As Circle's Chair, Dana Johnson CRSP CHSC CSO LIAT, shares, "Through tools and resources, and building a strong sense of community, Sysco Canada and the Circle colleague resource group continues to advocate for safe, respectful, and inclusive environments for all – Indigenous and Non-Indigenous." Together, we can stand up and raise our voices in solidarity against gender-based violence.
