Did you know that Swedish sawmills currently generate around 2 million cubic meters of sawdust, mainly burned in boilers? Meanwhile, the construction industry is searching for greener alternatives to current building panels. Could the solution lie in particleboard, joined together with "green chemicals"? Associate Professor Dennis Jones and Ph.D. student Alexander Scharf of WSE from LTU have been researching this. Their initial publication on Imidazole as a binder in particleboards has shown promise (Read it here: https://lnkd.in/dCbhz3Gi). The team has now moved on to a new chemical, offering particleboards excellent moisture resistance and a mere 2.2% thickness swelling from dry-to-dry state after a rigorous boiling test. Next week I am visiting Atlanta, USA for the SURFIN2024 Exhibition, delivering a paper on our new SerPure Ceramol Molecular Filtration systems. Globally, industrial effluent treatment is falling short of mandated standards, not only are the incumbent solutions expensive but they pose significant challenges of meeting water discharge standards. Legacy WWT processes such as Ion-Exchange and chemical coagulation and flocculation treatments can be expensive, labour and energy intensive, intolerant of process changes and create secondary sludge and backwash. SERFILCO’s SerPure CeraMol media and system is a simple, low-cost, multi-targeted and highly capable water purification system. CeraMol Filters are regenerable, ceramic, molecular filter media which use chemisorption (adsorption, absorption, oxidisation and catalysing) to remove dissolved metals and other pollutants such as ammoniacal nitrogen, COD, BOD and anions from industrial waste waters and rinses. 🎙️Nick Kanopoulos, CEO of Brite Solar, participated as a speaker at #Agrivoltaics 2023🌱, presenting the innovation of Brite Solar regarding the nanomaterials it uses, as well as the deposition techniques for the new class of glass materials for the construction of buildings. ✨ 📌The #AGRIVOLTAICS 2023 and the 13th International Conference & Exhibition on the Green Flexible Printed Electronics Industry (ICEFPE23), took place on 30 October and 01 November 2023 at the #DivaniCaravel hotel, in Athens. In this presentation, a translucent photovoltaic glass technology optimized for agricultural applications, namely, greenhouses and agricultural photovoltaic systems, was described. The glass transparency adapts to the geographical location of the facility and the crops grown under the canopy in order to achieve the optimal balance between crop performance and energy efficiency. New nanostructured materials have been developed and applied to solar glass in order to increase its transparency and harness UV radiation by reducing UV radiation in the 600-650 nm region of the visible spectrum, where plants photosynthesize. This coating increases photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) for plants under the canopy and thus crop yield. Brite's nanostructured materials have been third-party tested and certified for functional and durable properties, as applications in agriculture require an extended shelf life for any product that can be developed.
