Cybernate: represents the fusion of advanced technologies with the human body, ushering in the age of human reproduction. This concept involves the integration of electronic components, artificial intelligence or robotics into biological systems to enhance physical and cognitive abilities. Description: The goal is to overcome the limitations of the natural human form and open up opportunities to improve sensory perceptions, increase strength and improve cognitive function. It blurs the lines between man and machine, offering potential advances in medicine, prosthetics and neurotechnology. While the promise of transcending physical limitations, the ethical implications of cybernetics, including issues of privacy, identity and equality, underscore the need for thoughtful consideration as society moves into this realm of human-machine integration. So glad to see my colleague Yamel S involved in the Cyber Policy Dialogue for the Americas. Cybersecurity policy is such a wide space that needs ongoing attention and engagement in every region in order to hit on the many challenges facing countries, organizations, and individuals - on everything from CII and supply chain resilience to operational technology and cyber capacity building. #cybersecurity #capacitybuilding #americas
How can we better understand the opportunities and challenges presented by cyberspace across the Americas in fields such as security, trade, AI, and space power? Access Partnership is delighted to announce that Yamel S, Policy Manager for Emerging Markets, has joined the Advisory Board of the Cyber Policy Dialogue of the Americas (CPDA). Incubated at Stanford University, CPDA was launched in 2022. It is the first initiative in the region that seeks to generate dialogues and research around the intricacies of cyberspace, aiming to bring unrepresented voices to the forefront of cyber-related and emerging technology debates. This is the FIRST-EVER map of the online universe, focusing on the dark side of the web. This week, we highlight Neil Johnson's “Dark Side of the Web” (The George Washington University / The George Washington University Columbian College of Arts & Sciences), exploring the intersection of art, science, and cyber security from our #ArtOfScience Showcase. Each circular dot represents an online community supporting hate and extremism, with up to a million members. Color-coded by social media platform, these communities interlink, forming a web of distrust that exposes around 1 billion people to harmful content. AFOSR’s mission is to lead and discover basic research that ensures technological advancement and safety for the United States Air Force and United States Space Force. By visualizing the spread of online hate, this research aids policymakers and moderators in creating safer online environments. Dive into this crucial research and see how art captures the complexities of online dynamics. #AFOSR #BasicResearch #AFOSRBoldResearch #AFResearchLab #OnlineSafety #CyberSecurity #PhysicsModel #STEM #TechInnovation #FutureTech

In an era where power struggles span the virtual realm, the battleground of supremacy has transitioned from traditional lands and oceans to the vast expanse of #cyberspace. No longer confined to conventional military might, today's landscape sees the #Weaponization of #technology as a key driver of influence. A critical element in this power struggle lies in metadata collection, particularly by #TechGiants under the banner of #NationalSecurity. The revelations surrounding the U.S.'s expansive global surveillance initiatives, spearheaded by the National Security Agency (#NSA), offer a stark example. Programs like PRISM (https://lnkd.in/dAcC8wn6) involve the collection of internet communications from major American tech companies. The extent of the NSA's cyber espionage, including hacking and targeting foreign governments, came to light through Edward Snowden's whistleblowing (https://lnkd.in/dyJKP3CQ). Compounded by leaked documents, it was revealed that the U.S. and its European counterparts engaged in espionage activities, even collaborating to target EU member states (https://lnkd.in/dXWDWEmj). The intricacies of this web of surveillance further illustrate the intricacies of the geopolitical power struggle in cyberspace, matters I have discussed in my Privacy and Security course at NOVA School of Law (by the way, on matters of international conflicts and geopolitical strategy, check the work of my colleagues Felipe Pathé Duarte and Laura Íñigo Álvarez, at NOVA School of Law). The European Union's response to these challenges took the form of the ‘EU Toolbox on 5G Cybersecurity’ (https://lnkd.in/dR-uq-fY). Introduced in 2020, it marked a significant shift towards bolstering security and reducing dependence on Chinese tech giants. This stance aligned with the United States' position on the matter. Recent developments, including the ‘Second Report on Member States' Progress’ (https://lnkd.in/dskCKCms) and the European Economic Security Strategy (https://lnkd.in/d4kS4Ena), reinforce the EU's commitment to secure the #digitalinfrastructure. This intricate interplay between technological advancement, geopolitical manoeuvrings, and regulatory frameworks forms the backbone of the ongoing digital power play. As the battle for dominance rages on in cyberspace, the world watches with bated breath to see which nation will emerge as the master of this new universe. Star Wars is not Cyber Wars.
