It will be interesting to see how the RNC & DNC impact the hospitality industry in general. Both hoteliers and restaurants.

Can you imagine reviewing 3,400 pieces of legislation in 90 days?!?! This is why working collaboratively is so critical to stay on top of things in Annapolis during Session.
1 of 6 - it takes a village An oft used phrase, but around here, we mean it. With ~ 3,400 bills introduced in Session this year, we need all the help we can get! Thank you to our Greater Ocean City, MD Chamber of Commerce Legislative Committee, The Rasmussen Group, the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, the MARYLAND TOURISM COALITION INC, and the Maryland Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives for helping us stay on top of what mattered during a busy Session this year. Thanks to Blue Water Marketing for capturing video of this event for us!

Daily Dollop of Wallop #44 Good morning one and all. Today is a day of proactive innovation seeking. By that, I mean, I basically spend every Tuesday focusing my energy on seeking inspiration to enable me to build something or continue to build something. In the press this week, clearly, the main headlines (and rightly so) have been around the impending Spring Budget on 6th March. Specifically, the things that will be put in front of the decision makers around what the hospitality industry desperately needs, set out by UKHospitality. Just take a look at this figures: 6,000 venues closed in 2023. 23,000 total closures since the pandemic. 3,222 openings in 2023, the third year of decline. On the face of it, these numbers can be seen as utterly devastating. Which, they are. To people in the trade and those outside of it. My question is around the 3,222 that opened last year. The sheer excitement, anticipation, enthusiasm and levels of euphoria that come with opening your own place or being part of the opening of a new place, is beyond comprehension sometimes. What isn't beyond measure though, is the success of a new opening. It's easy to measure and the way things currently are with the proposals around VAT and business rate hikes, the measure of success is, to many, not worth the thought, let alone any plan of action for a new opening. For that number of new openings to increase and most importantly, for that number of closures to fall, the government MUST action the three 'critical asks' being put to them. So my proactive 'inspiration seeking' energy will be placed into the spreading of these messages to all whom I come into contact with today who are owners, investors and those that serve others in this beautiful, beautiful trade. Is there a fairytale ending here? Well, the 2nd definition of the noun fairytale reads this: 'a fabricated story, especially one intended to deceive' The 1st definition reads this: 'a children's story about magical and imaginary beings and lands; a fairy story' Neither one is necessarily accurate in this context, but I definitely prefer the sound of the 1st definition. Do you? Leverage your beverage.
