“Together We Care. Together We Share.”
Millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental health condition – and if it doesn’t affect you directly, it affects you indirectly though family, friends, or coworkers. Thus, proving the importance of raising awareness to provide support and help fight discrimination.
While it’s important to discuss year-round, Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW), which occurs the first week of October, provides a dedicated time for mental health advocates to come together as one unified voice.
To help convey the power of coming together, this month’s #ShipTip shares useful resources to provide support and to help you better advocate for yourself and others:
🔸 NAMI offers support groups that are peer-led and allow participants to share their experiences and gain support from other attendees. To find a connection or support group near you, visit: https://hubs.ly/Q024k4H-0
🔸 Not ready to reach out? “You Are Not Alone,” written by Dr. Ken Duckworth, is a comprehensive guide that covers how to get help, pathways to recovery, the intersection of culture and mental health, and many more important topics. Different from your typical mental health guide, it also shares stories from 130 people who have been there and understand how challenging it can be to find the help you need. 🔸 Want to be a better mental health advocate? NAMI advocates to ensure people get help early and get the best possible care. Every voice makes a difference. Learn more about their advocacy campaigns and how you can join here: https://hubs.ly/Q024k1kC0
