UPDATED Barely 950A at 1V, we reach 1000A at 0.8V. The story is… We measured 500A, 0.72 A/mm2, in our “SPLIT dc-dc converter” for VERTICAL Power delivery: ➡ 4 output stage SWT boards (H = 10mm): 690mm2 (total footprint under the chip) – 93.4% efficiency at 200A (0.3 A/mm2) - 500A (0.72 A/mm2) with 88.7% efficiency. Then, we thought: What if we use 8 SWT boards, maintaining the primary switches? The efficiency would be slightly lower (primary side is not duplicated) and the thermal impedance would worsen… …but 1000A well deserves a try! The result is that the specific output impedance increased from 165 mohm x mm2 to 200 mohm x mm2. We knew it would increase, not how much. We measured reliably up to 900A. At 950A temperature was not stable and we stopped. So, what we have is (after increasing air cooling): ➡ 8 boards: 1375mm2 - 95.7% system efficiency at 200A (0.15 A/mm2) - 94.3% system efficiency at 400A (0.3 A/mm2) - 91.1% system efficiency at 700A (0.5 A/mm2) - 900A (0.65 A/mm2) with 89% efficiency. Our next stations: - Measure gain regulation and load steps. - New 2000A prototype, lower profile (5mm) and larger area, for “only” 0.4A/mm2. How to protect electronic circuit from over voltage ? ⚡🤯 By elements are called TVS "Transient Voltage Suppressor" that are connected in parallel with supply input 💯 In AC by Varistor ,DC by TVS diode special zener diode 💙 Let's speak about varistor ... The attached photo clarify Varistor IV curve. varistor behaviour in +ve half cycle is similar to its behaviour in -ve half cycle 🤯😱 Assume we have 110VAC power input 'normal operation' ,250VAC Transient voltage lasts 4micro seconds .. as shown in the attached curve .. In normal operation 110V, Current =0 (open circuit ) In Transient condition 250V lasts 4micro seconds ,I=1mA ,all electronic components withstand this current &Varistor doesn't damaged (parallel resistor )😱🤕 In Transient condition 250V lasts more than 4 micro seconds , Varistor (short circuit R= 0 ohm ) &then damaged to protect all electronic components in circuit 🔥 #Power_electronics #Varistor #TVS 💥

These spikes can be caused by various factors such as lightning strikes, electromagnetic interference, or switching of inductive loads. ➡️The primary function of a TVS is to divert excess voltage away from sensitive components, thereby preventing damage due to overvoltage conditions. TVS devices typically have a very fast response time, reacting to voltage spikes in microseconds or even nanoseconds. ➡️TVS devices come in various forms, including diodes, metal-oxide varistors (MOVs), and semiconductor-based devices such as thyristors or zener diodes.
