Professional advisor and researcher supporting agencies and in-house teams across a range of management, corporate communications and public relations issues

Meeting Dr Clea Bourne! I met another academic heroine from my Ph.D research at the PRmoment AI Masterclass this week. Clea (also known as Bourne, Clea. 2019. “The Public Relations Profession as Discursive Boundary Work.” Public Relations Review 45 (5): 101789.) is a critical researcher who is an expert in the mediatisation of economies and societies. Her work explores the resulting power imbalance and inequalities. At the PRmoment event, Clea discussed the issues she foresees resulting from AI within marketing and public relations practice and wider society. Right now, the main beneficiaries of AI are shareholders in companies including Amazon, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, and NVIDIA. All credit to Ben Smith for bringing together such a diverse community of speakers in such a brilliant format.. I'm following in Clea’s footsteps as a student. She's a practitioner turned researcher and also studied at Leeds Business School. She was also supervised by Prof Ralph Tench. The body of knowledge in management and public relations can be traced through books and references, as well as communities of scholars such as Clea and Ralph, and so many others. It's a beautiful and yet very much underappreciated thing. There’s also something very special about meeting people whose work you have studied, debated and critiqued. Thanks, Clea.

Thank you Stephen. The opportunity to do a PhD at Leeds Business School was transformative; it was the perfect home for research on corporate communications. Anne Gregory helped me start that journey; Ralph Tench and Lee Edwards were my sherpas. So glad you're working with Ralph on your studies, and looking forward to reading your thesis when it's finished.
