Stephen Huerta’s Post

🏡 Kim Rohrer says that, unfortunately, the director level can be where many HR careers go to die. She mentions the challenge is finding the confidence and empowerment to break free from the daily chaos. Even VPs with small teams often find themselves too entrenched in day-to-day issues to focus on strategic initiatives. They get stuck in employee relations, payroll, compensation reviews, and communication crises, making it hard to find time for cross-functional meetings or to advocate for their strategic goals. Many mid-career professionals feel lost, stuck in the same roles for years without a clear path to advancement. They feel they have to leave their current company to progress but can't be strategic because they're too bogged down by daily tasks. The PeakHR team aims to help these individuals see the forest beyond the trees. Part of what will help them climb out of the day-to-day grind is learning how to say no. It's harder now than ever, with challenges like COVID-19, the return-to-office debate, and global compensation variability. Additionally, there are issues like climate change, economic downturns, and social justice concerns. Our generation had it tough, but the next generation faces even more challenges. She says we need to do everything we can to support them, throw them a lifeline, and help pull them out of the hole. 🔔 Get more insights like this delivered directly to your inbox. Have a feeling that it’s mostly women stuck there - doing the same thing they do all the time. ‘If I don’t do this then who will?’

This is such an accurate depiction of my own experiences and what I observe daily with HR leaders in the companies I support. It's incredibly challenging to be strategic when constantly dealing with the complexities of people, especially in the unpredictable environment of start-ups where shifts in product and direction are frequent.

I really relate to this clip as a new-ish VP or People and Culture. The challenge of seeing the forest through the trees is REAL, but lifting up out of the weeds is so important. Thanks for this 🏡 Kim Rohrer

Great post, Stephen Huerta. And fabulous clip, 🏡 Kim Rohrer. Thanks for elevating the conversation on how reactionary HR drives burnout for leaders and steals time away from strategic initiatives. Critical problems to solve on all levels!

With so many HR Leaders reaching Burnout, and then leaving their in-house roles, some actually becoming seriously ill, and some actually dying, the profession and those supporting the profession need to do more to focus on the wellbeing of HR.

Love this, really great call out. Getting stuck in the day-to-day is also addictive.
