3 years ago today I was sent to the hospital to be induced at 38 weeks due to some complications in my pregnancy. I spent 24 hours in labor before a doctor finally told me we needed to do an emergency c-section as my daughters heart rate had begun to drop. Thankfully due to fast and thoughtful care by my doctor, my daughter arrived happy and healthy. We spent 5 days in the hospital for recovery from the major surgery, and headed home to start our life. Why do I tell you this on a networking site? Because what a lot of people don't know is that maternity leave/FMLA medical benefits takes 7-10 days to kick in post filing. And you can't file until you have a signed birth certificate. So that meant I got to spend 5 of my "Vacation days" in the hospital laboring and then recovering from a C-section. The most painful, emotional 'vacation' of my entire life. So- Here I am on my 3 year anniversary of said 'vacation' advocating for America and employers to do better. Working parents have it hard- Delivering Moms have it the hardest. Unpopular opinion 😬: Vendors, please don’t cold call/text my personal cell phone number. I don’t care how you got it. I’m never going to answer unknown numbers. And chances are I will block future calls if you leave a long salesy voice message. I understand how hard your job can be to strum up business out of nowhere. But I promise you, your calls to my personal cell phone are making me less inclined to want to learn about your service.
