Common mistake every candidate makes while searching for a job. Many candidates make a common mistake by not applying to enough jobs. It's a game of probability. For instance, if you apply to 100 jobs, you might receive 4 calls. You never know if those calls will come from the first 10 applications or the last 10. The key is to keep updating and applying. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐟𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐮𝐭? A while back, our team posted a job for a "data analyst." The vagueness of the title brought in a flood of applications - from fresh graduates to seasoned data scientists. It was akin to casting a wide net hoping to catch a specific fish. The lesson was clear: precision in communication is not just beneficial; it's essential. Our Turning Point: 1. 𝑫𝒆𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒌𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒔: We began specifying the technologies and methodologies candidates needed experience with. From "data analyst" to "data analyst with Python expertise." 2. 𝑪𝒍𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒇𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑰𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒕: We detailed how the role contributes to our projects and goals. For instance, instead of saying "responsible for data analysis," we said, "Your insights will directly influence market strategies, impacting our product's success in real-time." 3. 𝑯𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝑪𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆: We painted a picture of our company culture and growth opportunities within the role. Show how they'll grow with us, not just work for us. The shift was amazing. Applications became more targeted, interviews more strategic, hires more aligned. Fellow members, have you experienced a similar revelation? How has refining your job descriptions changed your talent hunt? #RecruitmentClarity #TalentAcquisition #JobDescriptions #hr

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Unfortunately, this is true in #jobhunting , too. What surprised me, though, was how low the "too good" threshold can be. It can take a lot of scrolling to find a matching job post. Then, sandwiched between all the "junior position" posts that require you to be simultaneously a data analyst, engineer, scientist, AND, somehow, a project manager, you find it - an entry-level position with realistic expectations. Finally! "Basic SQL and visualisation skills required, python or R is a plus" Great! "Comes with a few weeks of training to get you up to speed." Even better! You start going through the application process. After all the basics comes the point where any good applicant should look into the company and tailor their application accordingly, so that's what you do. And here's where it starts to smell fishy. The company's name doesn't really bring up anything other than its own webpage and glassdoor page, with mixed reviews. There are also two posts on reddit, from people that were in the same position as you are now, asking about the experience with the company. The comments paint a bleak picture. Some claim that the ad is a blatant lie to get you to sign up for a training course, and while they try to connect you to an employer, the job is never guaranteed. Additionally, you must commit to the course full time (i.e. cannot work), and are even encouraged to sing up for government support to do it. In other words, it's not a job post, it's a scam. And to top it all off, the remaining seemingly positive comments raving about the integrity of the company happen to come from new accounts that have been created purely for that one post, with no other engagement on the platform. Not suspicious at all. Having wasted hours, you cut your losses and call it a day. Let's try again tomorrow. Strength to all going through this! #datajobs #datajourney #scams
