I had a really tough time reading this criticism of (laundry brand) Vanish's recent ad that features an autistic schoolgirl and her sensory struggles. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/g3R-GUwH (watch the ad below) The author agrees that the ad, and the brand, did everything right - the story, the narrative, the cast, the intention... everything was right. But the author's grouse is: "I hate that we have to rely on private companies to provide awareness of these issues in exchange for their profitable gain. Why is it Vanish who created this film, instead of the NHS?" and, "the onus is on the individual to offer up their monetizable brand loyalty in order for their voices to be heard"! Whoa! That the NHS (National Health Service, UK) did not create such awareness is not Vanish's mistake. Plus, more importantly, Vanish cannot force people to buy only its products to showcase their support for the cause depicted. At best, Vanish (and the agency, Havas) could only hope to leave people feeling positively disposed towards the brand. For a laundry detergent, a commoditized product, 'positively remember the brand' is a pretty decent goal. But people can, and will, buy whatever detergent they want/have been buying. The ad's narrative is Vanish-agnostic. It doesn't pitch Vanish as a solution (something the author agrees with too). Vanish's only intent and hope is that the positive sentiment *may* translate into sales too, if not loyalty, eventually. I thought this criticism was vastly misplaced. The fact that it took so, so, so long to come to the actual criticism, after setting up an extraordinarily long prelude that lists everything that the ad did right is perhaps proof enough! #advertising #marketing #criticism #cause #causemarketing

We started working with this new client back in July 2023. Two brothers were relaunching their restaurant with a new name and a completely new menu. From Tapas to handmade pies and sausages. (quite a challenge in repositioning) We delivered their new strategy, name, identity and website.
