Disruptive HR is a course I was recommended some time ago. I started to dive in and joined their programme in my notice period from my previous job. During my time managing teams I have lost count of the amount of leadership books I’ve read, training events I signed up to and car journeys spent listening to podcasts for some sense of clarity on how to balance business demands whilst keeping people your priority. In addition I reviewed many processes which I hoped ‘would make it more simple’. Disruptive HR has been the only tool I have found that provides thought leadership, discussion as well as important and useful material to support day-to-day. #peoplemanagement

Global HR Executive | Transformation & Innovation| Help Talent & Organization become Future Fit| High-Performance Culture | Global, Switzerland, Europe, APAC | Industrial, Life Science, New Tech
This is a must-listen for all HR professionals. HR visionaries Dave Ulrich, Bob Eichinger, and Allan Church, Ph.D., alongside host JP Elliott, PhD Elliott, discussed the limitations of skills-based organizational models and stressed the critical need for forward-thinking in leadership development. Their insights into the challenges of cultivating a strong leadership bench are invaluable for anyone invested in the future of HR. Reflecting on the "Knowing to Doing" gap, here are some actionable insights gleaned from my experiences as both a practitioner and advisor: 1. Mastering the Science: True understanding of talent management goes beyond attending a few workshops or skimming through articles; it’s about engaging deeply with the science behind it, which comes from psychology, educational theory, and studies on peak performance. It involves critically evaluating multiple methodologies and applying them in a way that aligns with your organization's specific needs. It takes effort to establish a solid foundation and then to stay updated with the latest debates. 2. A Systematic and Holistic Approach: Effective talent management demands more than just a linear process; it requires a holistic view that integrates all aspects of the HR function. A systematic approach isn’t just about following steps—it’s about ensuring each step from needs analysis to evaluation is interconnected and contributes to the overarching business goals. There are some simple ways to do a quick check. For example: complete the sentence “ so that…” to answer why a program matters, as Dave Ulrich has emphasized. Verify if the success measures were identified upfront based on clearly articulated program objectives and if there are resources and plans to collect the evaluation data and review it for ongoing improvement. 3. Why Design Thinking Matters: When redesigning people-oriented programs like performance management, design thinking offers a unique advantage. Unlike the traditional process improvement approach, design thinking begins with a deep understanding of the end-user and other key players involved in achieving the results. It involves empathizing with their experiences, defining their needs, ideating solutions, prototyping, and testing. For instance, when we applied design thinking to rework the performance management system at a major pharma firm, the design team was excited to propose an app only to find out managers didn’t want another company app on top of four others that they had to use in the prototype feedback session. The iterative feedback session resulted in a better solution fit for the managers. Thank you, JP Elliott, for producing this enlightening conversation to elevate HR’s capabilities and inspire future HR leaders. HR is complex. As an HR leader, you'd like to create a shift in your team, but it can be difficult to know where to start. When I'm talking with HR leaders, it can take a while to identify a way forward. There are pain points, those are easy to identify. The causes of those pain points are harder to pin down. If you'd like a sounding board to scope out your challenges, I'd enjoy helping you to do that. Message me for a complimentary coaching session.
