Still one of my 'Ah-ha moments' along the Product Management journey. It is a battle of mindsets daily for me as I navigate working as a Project manager, with a Product background. Far too often I see the 'success' being defined by the BIG Milestones...Business sign off, Go-live, 9-12 months in the making! But what happens when the assumed success does not occur after all that time, money and effort? At which point along the journey do we wish we could rewind to so that we might identify where an MVP or incremental releases could have saved us from the final outcome?! Everything is great in hindsight...it is so much better with incremental validated solutions that deliver customer value!

Are you still celebrating your product releases with grand parties? Only to then move on to the next shiny project without really assessing how it performed? Or worse, do you hand it over to another team and disband? This is precisely why stakeholders are often wary of Minimum Viable Products (MVPs). They fear getting stuck with a dud that won't be improved. Thanks to the laundry list of big features that are already queued for the team to pick up. Whatever happened to learning and improving? I had a team tasked to digitise submitting insurance claims to reduce manual processes and phone calls. Storm claims were a priority for us because we get thousands of them every year. But we didn't have enough data to decide what claim types to focus on next. So, we created an MVP that enabled straight-through lodgement for storm claims. And the rest goes to a generic text box for users to tell us more. This allowed us to gather the data we needed to prioritise the other claim types. And it worked! We enabled submitting claims online for the top 5 claim types before the budget ran out. By iterating and improving, we created a solution that people used. And it reduced phone call bottlenecks and manual data entry in the contact centre. Don't run away from MVPs. Use them as a tool for learning, iterating, and improving. Keep the end goal in mind - creating value to make people's lives easier and better. Do you agree? Let me know your thoughts.👇 #AgileAngel #AgileSoftwareDevelopment #TeamWork #TeamCoaching #Learning

Like you I see many insurance innovation ideas, clever tech, pitch ideas, etc. Great ideas aren't always right ideas. Let me introduce you to a concept that crossed my feed/interest over the past year or so, SetOnce™ Great ideas aren't always connected with practical means of launching. Great tech sometimes is the wrong approach to the problem. Shiny objects can lose luster quickly. I focus on #innovationfromthecustomerbackwards , ideas that are designed from customer problems/challenges/needs/desires/budgets and made useful through clever process or tech. I told @SetOnce founder Phil Barish, that SetOnce is a great idea that insurance carriers may recognize as a good idea but may not see how it would be a right idea. SetOnce is a tool that uncomplicates customer communication and transparency for handling of complex claims. It's designed from the customer needs backwards. Sure, it's heavy with data, adjusters would need some training, customers would need some explaining, but current handling of complex commercial, industrial and homeowners claims is a messy challenge now. SetOnce is a great idea from a claims guy's perspective. I like it for its uniformity and organization. Is it the right idea for carriers and adjusters in this environment of cycle time, severity management and limited adjuster training? I THINK SO. Worth two minutes of video. https://lnkd.in/eT8_kaZZ https://lnkd.in/eiN8QrT6

Distinguished Software Engineer, Agile/Technical Coach, Podcast/Videocast Co-Host - The Mob Mentality Show
Understanding Variation: A Daily Tale of Tardiness "The layman, however well educated but not learned in statistical theory, attributes every event to a special cause, unaware of the distinction between common causes of variation and special causes. An actuary at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York was predictably 12 to 17 minutes late every morning. He would on arrival gather everyone around him to explain how it happened, why he was late this morning. Every morning was to him a new morning, never ever a morning like this morning. It never occurred to him that (except for an accident or a storm) he was dealing with common causes of variation. It never occurred to him to leave home 20 minutes earlier, to let common causes of variation do their work, and arrive on time. But maybe his life would have been dull if he had arranged it to arrive on time: there would have been no story to tell every morning." ― W. Conference Room Insights Today was a change of pace in our usual conference room setting. Instead of navigating the maze of policies and proposals, we delved deep into the art of communication. Understanding insurance isn’t just about deciphering paperwork; it’s about making sense of individual stories and needs. There’s something invigorating about stepping back from the daily grind and focusing on improving ourselves. Not for accolades or achievements, but to genuinely serve better, to connect on a deeper level, and to simplify the complexities. Every training video, every discussion, is a step forward. It’s about growth, clarity, and refining our approach. It’s the less-seen part of our journey, but arguably the most crucial. Here’s to continuous learning, understanding, and evolving in the ever-changing landscape of our industry. #GrowthMindset #ContinuousLearning #EvolvingEveryday #MMA
