👉 Discover how AI can transform your instructional design process. 🤖 Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the instructional design landscape. One of the many ways is through the creation of custom GPTs. 🔥 🔥 🔥 For example, “course creator” GPTs are pre-trained on instructional design theory (think Gagne’s nine events of instruction, Merrill’s first principles of instruction). 💡 Using these types of GPTs and a solid set of learning objectives, IDs are able to input vast amounts of source material into these GPTs to generate draft content that is segmented into digestible chunks, generate knowledge checks and create assessments that test the attainment of learning objectives. (Note the word draft). 📹 Such GPTs can even generate scenarios, case studies, and video scripts for actors to boost learner motivation and engagement. By embracing these AI-driven strategies, instructional designers can kick start the creative process, enhance efficiency, and reduce costs. 👉 How are you using AI in your instructional design process? All About Dogs! 🐶 I challenged myself to create an #onlinecourse using #AI as extensively as possible. You can access it through the link. The #course is all about #dogs! https://lnkd.in/gAB_vTFt The motivation stemmed from the overwhelming hype surrounding AI in #instructionaldesign. Despite all the buzz, practical and specific guidance for how AI can specifically benefit instructional designers seemed scarce. So, I explored AI's potential firsthand and share my findings to provide some insights for fellow designers feeling similarly. In short, I discovered that while AI is a powerful tool, it is not a panacea. Here's what I learned through the process: Content Creation: AI excelled in generating and organizing content quickly into structured segments. This efficiency was particularly valuable for getting started with #coursedevelopment. Instructional Design: While AI could draft course outlines and define lessons, the resulting material often lacked the creativity and engagement required for effective learning experiences. Input and refinement are crucial to transform AI-generated outlines into high-quality instructional content. Activity Development: AI proved proficient in generating multiple choice questions but struggled with creating more complex activities that demand adaptability and creativity. This limitation highlighted the need for intervention in designing engaging learning activities. Media Development: Tools like Flickify and Clipchamp expedited media creation to some extent. However, significant effort was still necessary to enhance AI-generated visuals to ensure they contributed effectively to the course's educational value. Graphic Design: AI's contribution to visual and instructional design was minimal without designer guidance. It underscored that designers are indispensable for crafting visually appealing and impactful #eLearning experiences. AI is a valuable asset in instructional design, particularly for automating routine tasks and initial content creation. Yet, its full potential is realized when combined with the designer’s creativity, expertise, and a critical eye for instructional quality. I hope this gives practical insights for leveraging AI effectively in #trainingdevelopment, offering a realistic perspective amid the AI hype.

Is AI really changing the game for Instructional Designers? We have been seeing how AI is starting to shake things up in our world of instructional design. AI tools are jumping into the content creation, offering us ways to make learning experiences super personalized and adaptive, which is pretty exciting. But here's the thing – even with AI stepping into our territory, our role as instructional designers isn't getting sidelined. Instead, it's getting more crucial. Think of it this way: AI might be great at churning out content, but its the instructional designer who blends it perfectly with pedagogical goals and keeping it human at heart. This whole shift is not just about keeping up with tech. So, what's our move? We keep learning, staying agile, and figuring out how to use AI as a powerful ally to make education even more awesome. The 4 secrets to amazing #elearning revealed in 4 minutes (Spoiler Alert: It is not #aigenerated - immediately observable visual elements, such as slide transitions, and widgets) We often hear suggested changes to improve the online course experience by focusing on elements that are easily and immediately observable, such as visual elements, slide transitions, widgets, embedded 360o images, etc. AI tool vendors promise instant and amazing e-learning experiences. This is nothing new and as true as when Thomas Edison said that instructional films will replace teachers. Although suggestions to infuse more "pizzazz" in e-learning may be valuable to a limited extent, and AI tools are proving to be useful helpers, my past and recent experience as an online training manager points out that: 1. The body of the main content and its organization distinguishes a great course from a mediocre one. This leads us to the second point. 2. Scope, sequence, and presentation must connect the message to the learner in an authentic way. This why these decisions should not be left up to the SME who rarely has a pedagogical background and seldom e-learning experience. 3. We should not solely focus on widgets and visual effects unless directly connected to the delivery scope. 4. We should strive for better storytelling concepts, intuitive presentation sequences, and content re-arrangements to promote clear messaging and better-understood themes. This "better organization" of the content can only come via the #instructionaldesign from the IDs which are the ones most intimate with the content after the SME. The learner is looking for a narrative to follow to reach meaningful conclusions or instances of sudden insight or discovery – what we call “aha moments." Nobody ever understood something complicated or reached a profound conclusion thanks to the incorporation of a random widget or a fancy AI-generated visual effect that was not meaningfully interwoven in the fabric of the narrative.
