Our Chief People Officer, Ciara Harrington (Barry), spoke with Human Resource Executive about encouraging employees to experiment ethically with AI in the workplace. "When generative AI came out, companies took two approaches. Some companies said [to employees], “We don’t want you using this product. We don’t know enough about it.” As a learning organization, we felt the opposite. We said, “We need to start to understand this product, we need to learn it, we need to know how it works. We need to understand how it is going to change the way we work and how we are going to think about talent, roles and jobs in the future.” Read on: https://lnkd.in/ekSr4dpA

"We’ve created an AI Council and we have just been experimenting like crazy, which has been super fun. As a group, we talk about the different things people are doing, and we brainstorm on ways that we could do those within our organization. All of us as leaders are being held accountable: getting ourselves 5% more productive using generative AI and reporting back on how we’re going to do that—as well as trying to figure out the other tasks people are going to do with their time." https://lnkd.in/gUUwBRsq #artificialintelligence #generativeai #humanresources #training #productivity

Corporate Vice President, AI at Work @ Microsoft | Predicting, shaping and innovating for the future of work | Tech optimist
I appreciate Ryan Roslansky's forward-looking take on human-AI #collaboration and the importance of adopting a skills-first mindset. The skills landscape is evolving rapidly, with a projected 65% change by 2030, emphasizing not only #AI literacy but also the rising importance of people skills like problem solving and strategic thinking. As AI reshapes work, our #WorkTrendIndex data indicates that the ability to work iteratively with AI as Copilot will be a crucial skill for every employee. Learning to collaborate with AI should be an ongoing process, and organizations, with the right culture, can equip their workforce to experiment, acquire new skills, and smoothly transition into a new way of working. As Ryan suggests, AI is merely one tool in the toolbox—it doesn't replace people. Instead, this moment underscores the centrality of people skills for career success, with leaders integrating AI to augment, not substitute, human capabilities. This article ends with the following sentence: "The result will be a new world of work that’s more human and more fulfilling than ever before". I couldn't agree more about the new world unfolding before our eyes with AI as a reality without a date to slow down! The central point of this relationship between AI and more human leadership models is that AI will handle the managerial aspect of leadership. This is a HUGE invitation for us to understand leadership as something FAR BEYOND tasks -- which will now be automated and become more efficient. This provides more time and mental space for leaders to fulfill their role as orchestrators and create a REAL impact in people’s lives. And you, how do you see all of this? #newleadership #ai #orchestration https://lnkd.in/gKNR9SFy

AI + humans = the future of work 🌟 Not AI, instead of humans. 🌟 "Much like the internet did in the 1990s, AI is going to change the very definition of work. While change can be scary, if the last three years taught us anything, it can also be an opportunity to reinvent how we do things." This is why People & Culture folks (like me!) have to be strategic on how AI is implemented into the workflow of our teams in 2024. How? - Create ethical governance and guiding principles on how, when and where you use AI, keeping your customer's data privacy at the forefront. - Equip and empower your top talent with AI tools that help reduce their repetitive tasks. - Create an impactful talent strategy that builds on their strategic planning skills, helping them elevate the work they do and focus on growth - Build, test, iterate, refine, rinse, repeat. And remember... People are our greatest strategic asset. article by Ryan Roslansky: https://lnkd.in/gTVgct2h #AIandHumans #futureofwork #leadershipdevelopment #talentstrategy #HRBP

This is a great read. Take a moment to hear Ryan Roslansky’s progressive take on human/AI collaboration and it’s role in the workplace. This piece reminds me of something the CEO of Fusion Risk Management, Mike Campbell said on the importance of how generative AI will equip organizations to streamline business continuity and operational resilience to accelerate time to value. At a customer summit where Fusion enveiled the launch of their their generarive AI powered assistant, Fusion Resilience Copilot, Campbell said, “Generative AI will change the world as much as the internet did.” Sentiments shared by Ryan in this article. Both of these CEOs understand what is important to embrace- the future of AI in the workplace needs humans more than ever to adopt a skills-first mindset. I couldn’t agree more with the need and timing to embrace human/AI as a neccessary collaboration in the workplace. People skills like problem solving, strategic thinking, and time management are crucial for employees to level up in the new era of life with generative AI.

Very well put Hayete!! As we stand at the precipice of an AI-fueled transformation, it’s evident that Generative AI will significantly impact our workplaces. While the short-term disruptions are inevitable, our shared responsibility lies in minimising the negative effects on employment and human well-being. Skills Evolution: The rapid advancement of AI necessitates a shift in focus. Rather than fearing job displacement, let’s embrace the evolution of skills. Problem-solving, strategic thinking, and empathy—the uniquely human abilities—will be our compass in this changing landscape. AI Literacy: Technical proficiency in AI is essential, but it’s the practical application that matters. Employers must prioritise AI literacy, ensuring that employees understand how to harness its power effectively. People Skills: Amid algorithms and neural networks, the demand for people skills remains steadfast. Collaboration, communication, and emotional intelligence are the bedrock of successful AI-integrated workplaces. Leadership in the AI Era: Leaders, take note. AI isn’t here to replace us; it’s here to amplify our potential. Foster a culture of continuous learning, where humans and machines coexist harmoniously. 🌈 The Future: Let’s envision a workplace where AI augments our capabilities, leaving room for creativity, innovation, and meaningful connections. AI is transforming the world of work as we know it and represents the next massive shift in computing similar to the magnitude of the personal computer, the internet, mobile devices, and the cloud. With this shift comes immense opportunities. This WIRED article by Ryan Roslansky dives into how #AI is reshaping the way we communicate, collaborate, and create value in the workplace and emphasizing just how important human led skills will be now and in the future. According to the article, the skills required for many jobs have changed by 25 percent since 2015 and that number is expected to jump to 65 percent by 2030. So, what skills are the most important and how do we embrace this shift? For employees, adopt a skills-first mindset. Think of your job as a collection of tasks that can be automated, augmented, or amplified by AI, and focus on the skills that make you uniquely human. These include problem solving, strategic thinking, and time management, as well as emotional intelligence, creativity, and empathy. For employers, adopt a skills-based approach to hiring and developing talent. Look beyond job titles and degrees, and assess candidates based on their skills and potential. Provide opportunities for continuous learning and upskilling, especially in AI-related fields. And foster a culture of innovation and collaboration, where employees can leverage AI tools to enhance their work. AI takes away the drudgery of our day-to-day work and allows us the time to focus on the creative tasks that give us energy. The human tasks that we enjoy. What are some of the skills you are developing or looking for in the AI-driven workplace? Let me know in the comments below.
