Undergoing my current MSc in #sustainabledevelopment at University of St Andrews has taught me that sustainable development is not only the development of future technologies and engineering systems towards a more ecologically viable future. In fact it is a small element of a much bigger picture. I’ve also come to understand #sustainability involves the social structures of organisations, inclusivity, diversity, physical and imagined barriers to education, careers, completely different lives for many. Like climbing a mountain, barriers and exclusion is real - despite what WE may see or believe based on our experiences. For many of us and our privileged positions in the #globalnorth, with a very #westernised perspective of the world, it may be difficult to maintain an open mind to other ways of thinking, being, living. However, this is the foundation of sustainable development that we must always consider as we move forward in the warming world. Without the insight of women, #lgbtqiaplus, various ethnic groups, we would lack flexible, creative, unique ways of thinking and doing that provide the pillars for tackling contemporary challenges - especially in relation to the risks posed by #climatechange. #climatejustice #environmentalsustainability #sustainableleadership #womenindefence #equalitymatters

Thrilled to be part of Youth Environment Summit 2024 (YES'24), held from April 18th-19th 2024, delving into the vital role of youth leadership in environmental sustainability. Drawing on insights from lectures such as 'Making Sense of the Data: Statistical Applications in Environmental and Ecological Studies' and 'Community Canvas: Painting the Future with Participatory Research,' as well as the 'Fellowship and Grant Writing Workshop,' I've gained a deeper understanding of leveraging data analysis and community engagement for impactful environmental initiatives. The concept of International Youth Day was initially put forth in 1991 during the inaugural session of the World Youth Forum within the United Nations System and the theme for International Youth Day in 2023 is 'Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World'. At the Goyal Group, we find ourselves deeply connected to this year’s theme, as we understand that the challenges the world faces are vast, from environmental concerns to societal inequalities and by fostering an environment of inclusivity, mentorship and open dialogue we can amplify the impact of the youth and enable them to be catalysts of change. The shift towards an environmentally sustainable and climate-friendly world is critical not only for responding to the global climate crisis but also for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
