ETPM 6 Nations 2023 Charity Fundraising Campaign - ONE LAST PUSH BEFORE KICK OFF - C'MON Scotland Where did the last 12 months go? It certainly does not seem to be a year since we started our 2022 fundraising efforts on the back of the 6 Nations Rugby Tournament. No different to the last 8 years, we will have two main events to help us raise funds for this year’s nominated charity – The MY NAME’5 DODDIE Foundation. As many of you know this is Doddie Weir’s Foundation that has raised millions for MND research and increased the visibility of this terrible disease tenfold. The first event, which will be ongoing from today until Friday 3rd February, is the 6 Nations Sweepstake. Taking part is simple – forecast the results of all 15 games over the 5 rounds within the tournament, donate a bit of cash and await the sweepstake results after each round via email. The results often provoke a bit of banter and friendly competition as the predictions and weekly scores will be shared with all entrants. The sweepstake is now LIVE and can be entered via this link - Super Saturday – The Six Nation Fundraiser (super-saturday-rugby.co.uk) Last year we had circa 130 people take part in the sweepstake which raised over £2400 - thanks again to all who took part last year and indeed previous years. There will be random spot prizes throughout the tournament and the winner will receive a wonderful gift which as yet is unknown. However, the more entrants we have, the more spectacular the prize will be. The person with the least correct game forecasts will of course receive a Wooden spoon. In memory of our fellow participant Doddie there will also be a prize for the person coming in fifth which was his team number when playing for club and country. Do not worry if rugby is not your thing - you can still do the Sweepstake. Top tip: the two teams fancied to win the tournament are France and Ireland – if you back either of these teams to win all of their games, I would be surprised if you don’t amass a lot of points. Our second fundraising event is an “Open House” at our offices – infamously known as Super Saturday. Here we gather to watch of all of the games on the last day of the tournament on a big screen and munch on some unbelievably good pies, all washed down with your favourite tipple. There is also a wee bit of entertainment – a so called comedian and music - sometimes live! In case you're scrolling, hoping more meetings get cancelled today and next week ... I've got a cool story to share! About six weeks ago I started tryouts for a boxing club. This isn't just any club. It's a club focused on personal transformation and doing good in our local community. Training culminates in an amateur boxing event in April called Battle on the Bricks. More than 3,000 people attended last year, so this is a legit event. https://www.chsboxing.com/ Since tryouts began, I've jumped rope for more than 400 minutes and thrown 1000s of jabs, crosses, and hooks. And, I'm proud to share that I made the team!! I can hang with competitors who are 10-20 years younger than I am (although I think I need more recovery time 😀). Why would a successful career woman like me volunteer to get punched in the face? 1) I love boxing, 2) the personal challenge AND 3) to fundraise for amazing local charities. Tasmanian greyhound racing clubs are deeply integrated into the local community, actively supporting a wide array of grassroots organisations and initiatives. In Hobart, the Greyhound Racing Club has embraced local sporting clubs by hosting sporting clubs challenge nights that benefit a variety of clubs across sports ranging from AFL to netball, offering both direct sponsorships and opportunities to win additional funding. Similarly, the Launceston Club enriches the community with race days tailored for aged care residents, creating memorable social experiences. Moreover, a collective initiative across Tasmanian clubs culminated in a generous $35,220 donation to the Ronald McDonald House Charity, significantly enhancing the support facilities for families of children undergoing medical treatments in Hobart. These initiatives underline the greyhound racing industry’s dedication to nurturing and giving back to the communities they operate in, reinforcing their role as key players in building and sustaining local community spirit.
