Diversity is more than colour and race. Therefore, it must not be seen and used as reparations for the injustice suffered by minorities. In our quest to be diverse and give a voice to the voiceless, we end up suppressing other voices. Indirectly saying you have had your share, it is now our turn. It is like only certain people should be allowed to be involved, which by default discriminates. This has created a huge vacuum of silence 🤫 But I am yet to identify any problem that silence has solved. Inclusion should never be about us vs them. Inclusion should unite rather than divide. As we celebrate National Inclusion Week, members of the D&I network are inviting all colleagues across the business to spare some time from their busy schedules and participate in our activities. If you feel alienated from your labor and your workplace, no amount of inclusion and uttering the phrase "you belong," is going to change that. What most people truly want is to actually be the organization, shape it, mold it, benefit when it succeeds, and do real, local community work where you can actually see the fruits of your labor. In this case you don't need to be told you belong because you actually experience how valuable both your intrinsic worth and your labor outputs are to the community. You're then not just a part of it, you're deeply embedded in it. It's wild that in 2023 stating 1) what you produce and 2) how you produce it, needs to be a part of inclusion conversations, and is a radical thought, but here we are.

To bring Inclusion Day to life, you could... 1) Invite someone new over for game night or dinner. 2) Take a walk in the park and *talk* to those you pass along the way. 3) Check out what's going on downtown. In fact, these photos were taken downtown at a live music event last summer. You can bring this intentional day to life in countless ways, so let this social media post inspire you to branch out and include someone new in your activities. Now let's take a minute to talk about what Inclusion Day is. Special Olympics founded Spread the Word to End the Word in 2009 with an audacious belief, a plain observation, an urgent goal, and an ambitious plan. The world would be a better place if everyone was involved. Today, we celebrate!

🌟 National Inclusion Week 🌟 We all play a significant role in promoting diversity and inclusion, we promote allyship throughout our business to help drive our commitment forward. Every colleague has the responsibility to create an inclusive culture. 🙌   As we are coming to the end of National Inclusion week, we hear from Group Vice President of Audi, Andy Davies.   “For my role, inclusion is about fostering an open-minded approach to teamwork and recognising the significance of diverse contributions towards our mission. It’s not about a select few making decisions, but instead, it’s about all teams and each individual collaborating to ensure every decision benefits our customers, our team, and the overall success of the business. When I got the email that my company The Third Culture had been nominated for a D&I award I immediately thought it was a scam or a sales ploy. I had not entered for an award myself, and a small business like mine often gets an email like this: 'You've been chosen as a top provider or HR services, which we'll tell everyone about if you spend $3,000 on a page in our magazine'. I didn't click on any links, googled the firm and asked around... Indeed, I was elated to find out that it was legit and that someone, somewhere, must have nominated The Third Culture for DEI Innovation at the UnderOne Diversity and Inclusion Awards. The idea that our work creating safe spaces for more complex discussions for DEI practitioners has been noticed despite my personal difficulty with 'PRIng' myself and my company on social media already filled me with much joy...perhaps a bit of vindication for all the hard work it took to get here with an evidence-based, insightful approach. Last week, it was confirmed that The Third Culture MADE THE SHORTLIST. I mean WOW, this is beyond my dreams and imagination. As alluded to, I struggle with Linkedin posting. I really don't know much about the algorithms that help get loads of clicks despite having worked in media for over twenty years. In fact, I am quite sure this post will be one of my lowest in terms of reach ever. Nonetheless, I am giving myself a pat on the back today and look forward to The Third Culture's future supporting 'fearless and human inclusion conversations'. The end! #UnderOneAwards
