Reflecting on Labour’s landmark victory, there is a real sense of excitement and hope for the future of our nation. This momentous event signifies a pivotal shift in our nation’s political landscape, and it brings a host of opportunities for growth and transformation across all sectors. In his victory speech, the Prime Minister laid out a vision for “rebuilding Britain, brick by brick”— a vision for a future where every community thrives, the NHS is revitalised, and we all work together towards a more sustainable, secure, and prosperous future. With the election behind us, the focus will now shift to one of national renewal. However, the new Government faces significant challenges: doing more with less, boosting productivity, and driving place-based growth for better outcomes for people and planet. At PA Consulting, we have been delving into the areas that will define the UK’s future over the next decade. As part of our #ADecisiveDecade series, we have been focusing on ten key questions, including how we can catalyse innovation to drive economic growth, the role of the energy transition in enhancing productivity, and how better infrastructure planning can improve our communities. In our first article, Laycha H. and I delved into how innovations like Generative AI, green energy, and advances in life sciences can solve systemic problems and fundamentally shift the dial in today’s world. In our second piece, Kim McCann and Karthik Ponniah explored how the UK can best seize the opportunities presented by the energy transition. Their analysis underscores how this transition can lead to the opportunity of clean British power, reducing energy bills and fostering long-term economic and social progress. As the Labour government begins its work of change, stay tuned for more insights in our next articles covering areas such as how public services move away from crisis-driven to preventative models, how we accelerate the adoption of green mobility, and how we set the standards for future security collaboration. Now’s the time for action, ideas, and human ingenuity. Want the latest articles straight to your inbox? My generation are not just leaders of tomorrow; we have the energy, skills, and ideas to shape the world for good today. That's the message I shared with attendees at the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) Annual Conference ⚡️ This opportunity could not have come at a more pertinent moment, as our panel played a central role in establishing the tone for a day filled with dynamic debates and discussions. Sharing the stage with Chancellor Jeremy Hunt and the Shadow Secretary of State for Business Jonathan Reynolds MP, we addressed crucial economic priorities in anticipation of Wednesday's #AutumnStatement and the looming #GeneralElection. My interventions were a rallying cry for the urgent need for an education system fit for the demands of our evolving #economy. We called for a cultural shift that prioritises a more equitable #future, emphasising the importance of providing young individuals with employability readiness skills that align with the dynamic needs of the workforce of today and of tomorrow. 🗳️ With a membership spanning over 190,000 businesses, the #conference presented an extraordinary opportunity to contribute our perspectives to influential figures who play a vital role in shaping the trajectory of the British #economy. 📈 Throughout the session, we conveyed messages to business leaders: 👩🏻💼 Leave your egos, siloes and job titles at the door to foster genuine #collaboration and #inclusivity 😌 Authentic #leadership emerges when ears are as active as voices, breaking down hierarchical barriers and embracing a leadership style built on genuine listening 💥 Advocate for bold policymaking, urging leaders to transcend election cycles and market trends fearlessly. Encourage them to envision a #future founded on lasting solutions, harnessing the potency of cognitive #diversity within the communities most affected. 🫱🏻🫲🏿 Champion inclusivity and drive cultural/systemic change through #skills and employability readiness, placing my generation at the forefront of #innovation and societal transformation. Thank you, CBI (Confederation of British Industry) and Anthropy UK - receiving such complimentary feedback in the room was empowering. I encourage you to simply not leave them there.

Experienced Chair / Director and Board Advisor to 21st century businesses and organisations ready to challenge the status quo and lead the way in a constantly changing world.
Something that I like to talk about is fully engaging with stakeholders. Stakeholders are, after all, the people who are closest to the problem … whatever that might be. Solutions imposed from the outside rarely work, usually because there are nuances and quirks that aren’t considered when an outside solution is designed. So, it was interesting hearing the Australian Prime Minister talking abut the failures to Close the Gap (again), following on from the Productivity Commission comments. One of the things that the PM said was “…The key ingredient is engagement with community organisations and communities…” Which is one (of twelve) dimension of a C21 organisation. I am sure, however, that previous bureaucrats felt that they were engaging stakeholders, so… what is missing? If we are going to engage stakeholders, it is so important that it is genuine and authentic. ‘Cos authenticity matters. Stakeholders have genuine insights and understanding of what is happening on the ground, and it make sense (IMHO) to engage and actively listen to what they may have to say. There is no point if it is superficial, not real – because the solution will still miss the point. I think that it is interesting that the Government has reached this point. I just hope that it is wrapped thickly in Authenticity. And perhaps Australia can start to Close The Gap after all the fails. Jump over to www.donjameson.com, and let’s talk… there are lots of other C21 conversations that need to be had. #Future #TransformationalLeadership #LeadershipDevelopment #Directors #Technology #YourNetworkForLife

I’m really lucky that I get to spend most of my time collaborating with dedicated public servants and leaders who are committed to improving the lives of the people who depend on and use their services. And it's clear from the conversations I have that the UK is at a pivotal moment. The pressure to do more with less, enhance productivity, and drive place-based growth is acute, all aimed at delivering better outcomes for people and the planet. And as we approach a general election, both public and private sector leaders need to look at new ways to tackle these challenges. This is our opportunity to collectively address the complex issues facing our society and set a course toward impactful solutions. Whoever wins the next election will face profound challenges and opportunities to shape the country’s future. So at PA, we’ve set ourselves the ambitious challenge of tackling ten critical questions that will shape the next ten years. In the first of these articles, my colleague Laycha H. and I go right back to 1963 (yes even before I was born!) when Harold Wilson set out the “white heat” of innovation which would form a new Britain. In many ways, Wilson was right: the best way to solve systemic problems is through innovation. Generative AI, green energy, the nascent space economy, and advances in the life sciences all have the potential to fundamentally shift the dial in today’s world. But how can the UK reap the full benefits of these innovations to deliver growth, improve services and enrich lives? You can read the first in our series of articles here. Do take a look and let me know what you think. https://lnkd.in/e8NgANS2 #TenShapeTen #Innovation
